Tim had seriously not expected the transmission, and although he recognised the voice, he knew that he couldn't be certain that it was really Batman. The chances that it was his Batman and not some other dimension's, even if it really was him, were even slimmer. He had to exercise caution rather than letting his hopes get the better of him. There was only so much he could tell by talking to this Batman over the comm - and even encrypted, there was a chance that others could hack the transmission. Verifying his identity in person would be easier and safer, if he was careful ( ... )

Dick showed up slightly after Tim and stayed further away, watching the two figures for a second. Sure, he had recognized the voice over the comm, but after Hush impersonating Batman well enough that he would have probably fooled most of them if some real Batman hadn't shown up and if he hadn't blown his cover so quickly... it was easier to be paranoid and not trust easily, than to take appearances as sure things.

Both Batman and Tim probably knew he was there already and he hadn't tried hiding it more than that as he already confirmed that this wasn't his Batman. Or, if it was, he was from a different point in the timeline in which he'd changed his costume which could be the case - he couldn't turn down that possibility.

Either way, Dick once again had no idea how to feel. Not his Batman was still, from his point of view, a good thing since he didn't feel attached to another Batman as much as he did to his which meant it would still be easy to not care but ( ... )

The Dark Knight emerged from the shadows, cloak veiling his form, concealing him as he gauged each boy in turn. Definitely Dick and Tim. Also definitely not his Dick and definitely not his Tim, just by the ages ( ... )

It had become more obvious just from watching the way this Batman moved that he wasn't the one Tim knew, but had at least similar training. The decision to move away from the meeting point, and the unspoken assumption that they'd know why - that was essentially recognisable, utterly Batman in feeling. It was tempting to co-operate immediately and completely, accept the efficient order and, in doing so, accept this Batman as being who he said he was right away. It would have been a relief to do so, to hand over as many of the responsibilities that he'd been stockpiling so far as he could, but it also would have been foolish. He needed to know for certain that this was really Bruce, a Bruce at least, before he could do that - and Bruce should understand that need ( ... )
