It had taken some time to gather intelligence. With her so far outside his range, the only lead he had was the location she'd left Ghost, and so he had to fall back on the old methods, combing the internet for mentions of dragon sightings. Luckily, there had been a few coinciding with his earlier lead, so when he flew out to Mobile, he rented a car and drove west along the locations he'd gathered, waiting to see if anything turned up. He stopped by the Southern Bell for a burger, but the scene was cold. The waitress recognized Onyx's description from a few weeks back, but couldn't tell him much beyond that.
It was't till he was in nearly to Baton Rouge, in the late afternoon, that he finally picked something up. After stopping to orient the signal with his map, he was eventually led into the swamp, where he had to rent a boat to continue.
When he finally neared the lair of the giant black dragon, the buzzing in his head was strong enough that he knew he'd found her before he'd even seen her. He was also sure he was going to need a new pair of shoes. He hadn't dressed for this atmosphere. The jacket and hat had stayed in the car, but he still arrived in blue slacks and a tie, with the sleeves of his orange shirt rolled up to get out of the way as he navigated the foliage.
It's never wise to sneak up on a dragon, so he made sure to walk out where she could see him and give her a smirk. He'd let her make the first move from there, confident that it wouldn't involve eating him.
