[Bobbi was distracted by stupidity of her own. She'd been a little miffed at being left behind while Clint was on vacation, but not enough to do anything rash. She would have been fine throwing herself into her experiments and working out a little extra-- if not for Max's sudden reappearance. That meant a rush of unwanted and unresolved emotions, and the need to reach out to him. She was lonely. She could blame anything on being lonely.

She was actually speaking to Electro when she was suddenly jolted back into reality. Gasping softly, she hurriedly fumbled with the communicator, trying to shut it off before bounding out of bed and over to the door.]

Just a-- er, just a moment, baby.

[goshilovearrows]

( Clint heard her through the door but didn't stop twisting the doorknob, as if it would suddenly give way and let him in. He did hear the small commotion, however, so in those few moments he had time to grow concerned. )

Everything okay?

[mockingbirdie]

[Finally she gets the door open, cheeks flushed faintly, grin look more than a little forced.]

I'm fine. How're you? How was Tahiti?

[And now she's throwing her arms around him, hoping he'll be distracted enough to forget.]

( He wraps his arms around her instinctively, leaning down to kiss her cheek before taking a step further into the room. )

It was... hot.

( He crinkles his nose as he says this, indicating he's referring solely to the temperature and not other things. But he's also glancing around the room, eyes narrowed. )

[mockingbirdie]

I can imagine.

[She squeezes him extra tightly, like somehow that will erase the stain of her guilt somehow.]

I'm glad you're home. You look... tan.

[goshilovearrows]

( He looks back down at her and a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth. )

I hear the sun'll do that to a guy.

( As if he realizing the jerkishness of that statement, he pauses for a moment. )

I guess this is the part where I say sorry, for taking off like that.

[mockingbirdie]

You really had me scared, for a little bit.

[She smiles, expression mirroring his.]

Just... text me next time. Before the plane takes off.

[goshilovearrows]

I will. I promise.

( So far, so good. No yelling, no having to explain anything. He actually believes he might get out of this scot-free. )

[mockingbirdie]

Good.

[Great, so that's out of the way. Now there's just enough time for an awkward silence. Bobbi clears her throat to fill it.]

A friend of mine came back yesterday.

[goshilovearrows]

You don't sound happy about it.

( Which means that the suspicious, searching look returns. )

[mockingbirdie]

It's Max Dillon.

[Please don't make her explain why it's so awkward...]

[goshilovearrows]

...oh.

( His expression turns from pensive to grumpy in a matter of seconds, but in his defense he manages not to blurt out the first few uncomplimentary things he thinks of. )

And?

[mockingbirdie]

And we talked.

[Her faces falls, a look of guilt quickly changing into something like a scowl.]

That's all.

You talked.

( She can probably see him grinding his teeth at this point, wanting to say something but also not wanting to say the wrong something. Given that this is Clint Barton, it speaks volumes for his mood that he's holding his tongue even a bit. )

You know Kar--Moonstone showed up last week, right?

[mockingbirdie]

[Bobbi's eyes narrow slightly. She's so close to saying the wrong thing herself.]

Yes. Did you say hello?

Kinda wishing I hadn't.

( He's grumbling even as he nods. The fact of the matter is, Karla's presence is a constant irritant, a reminder of things he doesn't need to be reminded of. And he's not sure how to process that, or make it go away. )
