"Not exactly," Jack said as he dropped himself into the seat across from the girl and her... daemon? He still wasn't too clear on the relationship between the young vigilante and her constant companion. Another supernatural thing outside his experience.

"How are you doing, Lyra?" He asked.

Jack glanced at his menu but obviously wasn't here for food. "I'm okay. You came out of New Year's all right, didn't you?" She looked uninjured, at least. Still, that had been one hell of a night for everyone involved.

"Good." The formalities out of the way, Jack didn't waste any more time before getting to the point. "There's a new criminal group operating in this City. One of their rings was targeting children for kidnapping. There may be more of them out there."

Jack nodded, his own expression fairly intense. He could see that this topic was a personal one for Lyra. The idea that this girl had experience with this kind of thing clenched something inside of him.

"I want you to keep your eyes open, to tell your friends your age to keep their eyes open, to watch out for them," he said. "Any Import kids you know. There are people who would pay a lot of money for an Import. And Vulcanus has already proved they can be taken." Jack didn't know how much criminals would know about the Vulcanus conspiracy's actions, but considering the Dolvanian connection he was willing to assume the worst. "Native kids too. If you hear about anyone going missing, I want to know."

"Neither will I," Jack said, his jaw tensing. What had been done to Vivi and the others- by Jack's own government, no less- still filled him with rage. All the more so since Vulcanus was still out there. "I give you my word."

He paused to look around the diner, making sure they were still secure. No one was watching or listening to them. Jack had expected as much- these people were criminals, not professional spies- but he knew the value of vigilance.

"I'll tell you what I can, there's a lot we still don't know. The group is called Zero's Children, but they almost never call themselves that. They're supposed to be an urban legend. We have reason to believe that the core members are from Dolvania, but they mostly recruit from locals to keep a low profile."

"There's been a lot of chatter about them since they showed up," Jack agreed, wondering how much Lyra knew about this world's international politics. He knew she was very bright for her age, so probably quite a bit. He himself was still amazed that a new country like Dolvania had just been inserted seamlessly into this planet- about a year ago now, in fact.

"We know their government's involved in Vulcanus, and the Children are supposed to be fanatical government supporters." It was strange to run into terrorists and criminals who were in favour of those in power, but a lot was different where the Children were concerned.
