CROWD CONTROL & BYSTANDERS - OPEN

The farther away from the ball, the less chaotic. Since the Father Times had a rather specific goal, many of the people were confused as to what exactly was going on. Quite a few decided to stick around and watch anyway - it wasn't as if it were fear gas or carnivorous beasts or anything.

Between the oblivious new arrivals, the ones that were trying to get out of the square as fast as they could, and the Father Times that had split off from the main group, Times Square was a confusing, pushing, shoving mess.

And at midnight, just when things couldn't possibly get worse - the giant monster New Year Baby appeared.

[ kanaya had been viewing the on television, as she'd heard would be customary on this occasion, when she saw the commotion, that crowd. and it was no sooner than that when she burst onto the scene, trying to bring in as many barriers between the crowd and the trouble.

she could work out an exit strategy once she had that much managed ]

[And of course, Jade isn't going to leave her friend to deal with this all alone! She pops in and finds Kanaya pretty easily, grinning despite the chaos.]

Hi, Kanaya!

[ kanaya shoots her a smile as she pulls up a few cars to bolster her barricade ]

Jade, I'm glad you came!

[respaces]

[She grins, adjusting the cars just slightly.]

Of course I did!

Splendid! I'm uncertain how long the barriers will hold, so having an extra hand present to help evacuate this assemblage is deeply appreciated.

[ she pulls all the threads of the objects in her barricade together to hold them tightly ]

[She grins again.]

Don't worry! We'll make sure they hold!

Of course, the sooner we vacate the area, the less necessary the barricade will be.

[ she wrapped the threads around her arm once, and wondered how the best way to do this might be ]

Right!

[Jade considers this, biting her lip as she surveys the crowd of people around them.]

How many people do you think we can take with us when we teleport?

Well, I'm not entirely familiar with the extent of your abilities following your ascension. I can only offer to open a pathway for the crowd to proceed through of their own accord.

[ though with this many people would take forever, unless she could try to get multiple portals open one-handed ]

[He had just wanted to see the ball drop. He didn't like being down there with all the people, feeling far too crowded in. Still, it wouldn't be for too long, and once they were gone he could spend as much time alone as he wanted. Hell, he didn't even have to head home.]

[Naturally, a holiday couldn't go by in the City without something horrible happening. He hadn't been around long, but he'd already been learning that fact. This would help make it stick.]

[Well. The people around him were definitely not those who were keeping calm, and when you're only six years old, survival skills don't mean a whole lot if you're surrounded by big, heavy adults. He didn't want to physically injure anyone, but Ruka had said that sometimes nice people had to do bad things for the greater good... and he only had one other way to stop the madness

[ oh dear. she noticed the people dropping and felt a momentary panic, her glow waxing as indication. jade might be able to teleport them remotely, but she was only capable of opening portals for them to enter of their own wills.

but seeing it come in a wave would generally imply something was causing it, something that might be better directed to herself than allowed to cause further harm to these people. and so, she reels in a portal with her free hand to catch this wave and carry it out beyond the edge of the throng, where she could see it, and readied herself to meet this new threat. ]

[The main problem with coming from a world with no magic of any kind is that portals are something of a foreign concept. He emerges from between two people (who are now standing there slack-jawed) and comes face-to-face with a stretch of street that would look pretty empty if not for the lone lady standing in it.]

[Something doesn't look... right about the area behind her, but at this point, he's too concerned with escaping the crowd to care. There's already a bruise forming on his shoulder from getting knocked about, and he doesn't fancy anything worse--like trampling.]

[Kanaya has a little kid running straight for her. True, he's not on the attack, but how is she to know that he's only seeking safe cover?

[ a small child isn't what she expected to emerge, but once he had, her heart and maternal instinct got in the way of her head, and she forgot to consider he might be the cause. maybe he was running from it.

she released the threads she held to anchor the portal, and the disappeared as soon as she did while the two gates converged into normal space once more. she offers the now free hand to trowa, while her other wraps its threads a little tighter, reinforcing her barricade made with all the items connected to them ]

Are you alright, little one? There are a considerable number of dangers present at the moment!

[ it's at this point she realizes that the wave had ended in the crowd, and tenses as she begins to entertain the thought that its cause may be headed right for her ]

[Trowa doesn't register the disappearance of the portal behind him; he continues to head straight for Kanaya, hoping for some measure of protection. People weren't supposed to hurt ladies. If he was with her, they would be okay...]

[He spots the hand suddenly being held out and his eyes grow wide. Realizing that she intends to take his hand, and knowing what that will do to her if she does, Trowa crosses his arms and tucks his hands in tight. He then attempts to turn aside at the last moment, stumbling a bit. If she doesn't move, he'll smack right into her.]

[ she seems him stumble with some alarm, and so moves that outstretched hand in to swoop around his shoulders instead, catching him and trying to lighten the impact ]
