[May might not have been as surprised as she once would have to learn that Gerry and her thought process's overlapped on something, with one major exception. May refused to go home. The apartment, the tiny, one bedroom, way too cramped apartment, wasn't hers. It had been Reilly's, then hers and Reilly's, but never just hers. And she couldn't just go and do homework and live and sleep there. Not when he wasn't just ported out, but was dead, had died, and might not...might not...

She shoved off the building and let the adrenalin of free fall take the thought away from her. No. She wasn't going home, not until she was so bone tired she couldn't hardly even see as she crawled into the window. She had a few hours left of hard patrol to go before she reached that point.]

[It was starting to get a bit cold, and Gerry was already considering going back to his place and trying to sleep again, but, of course, he catches the familiar sight of red and blue swinging through the City. Or, in this case, falling. It wasn't hard for Gerry to distinguish that it was May and not Spidey... He just knew, in that totally non-creepy way.

He was only out here because he couldn't sleep, and it was beyond late for them, so he can't help but wonder just why she's out here, and to that end, he drops from his perch and webs over to her.]

Uh, it's a bit late, don't you think? What are you doing out here?

[Like he has any right to talk.]

Not a nine to five job, fanboy.

[She shoots out some webbing to catch herself just as she finishes the sentence, buying herself a few moments as she switches from falling to slinging properly. That doesn't change the fact she sounds tired, though. Even if she refuses to hear it.]

[Thing is, it seems like May doesn't even need to talk to show just how tired she is. She looks like she has been running herself ragged... Not that Gerry was paying close attention (he was), but right now, and judging from her webslinging, he's pretty sure he could outweb her in just about any circumstance... More than he normally could, of course.]

Yeah, and just how long have you been working? You look terrible, and I mean that as nicely as possible.

What, no line about how you're so much better?

[It came out snapped, and any other night she might have even shocked herself over how childish it sounded, but she wasn't in the mood. Bone-heavy, mind numbing tiredness took a lot of work, and Gerry was getting in the way.]

[And Gerry's first instinct is to rise and snap at the bait she'd just laid out, but, surprisingly, he knows better. It's not just because he likes her, and wants to prove that he's not always what she thinks of him either. No, he actually does notice things, and can be perceptive when he checks his ego at the door, and he thinks he has an idea of what might be going on.]

I don't feel like it... [He speaks softly.] How long have you been out here?

[She didn't stop web-slinging, but she didn't shoot a look over at him, noticeable even through the mask thanks to the full head turn required.]

What time is it?

[And he's grateful for that, but that doesn't mean he isn't going to stop pestering her anytime soon. And sure enough, he falls into swing alongside her, not having much trouble keeping up with her for once.]

It's almost four, Spider-Girl. [He's using her full name. This is his serious tone.]

Then about eight hours.

[It was a simply statement, followed by her flipping in mid air to take a corner.]

Spider-Boy.

[If he could show it via mask, and they weren't fifteen or so stories up, he'd be giving her the most deadpan look right now.

Only instead he's swinging to get in front of her, moving backwards so that they see eye to eye.]

You're done. You'll only hurt yourself if you stay out here. [Since when did Gerry become the responsible one? If only it didn't still sound... like Gerry.] You're no good out here.

I'm fine. I'm not that one that goes out looking to get cut up, remember?

[And one day, when she wasn't sleep deprived and Reilly was alive again, she would face the surreal fact their roles were reversed tonight completely. For now, she just does her best to keep from crashing into him.]

[Oh... Ouch.]

That's not fair, Spider-Girl! And this is a completely different situation! I didn't go out looking to get cut, it just happened. But sure! I go out looking for trouble, but that's not you! You're not this reckless, and you're tired.

Please, Spider-Girl, it's time to stop.

And do what?

[She's way too tired to be having this conversation if she's admitting to the fact she doesn't have anything else to do- which made him right. Not that that mattered. She dropped the web strand, loosing a bit of altitude before throwing out another.]

Just go home, okay?

Only if you do too!

[He groans in frustration, turning to chase after her again. He briefly considers just... tying her up and carrying her back to her apartment, but that probably wouldn't win him any points.]

I'm worried about you, okay? Why won't you just take a break and rest?

Because.

[There was something like a sigh, and she landed on the side of a building.]

Because I don't want to. I...I forgot how much I hate living alone.

[That actually makes Gerry shut up finally, and he lands on the building next to her, though it's just far enough to give her enough space, should she want it.]

Can't you just stay with you- With Spider-Man?
