He didn't comment for a moment, instead he took in the dress, the hair, the current posture from his noticed front row seat. Then with a flick of the wrist he loudly snapped the cover of the lighter off to the side on it's hinge and finished the task of bringing the flame up to the cigar. And, just to be on the safe side in case the hostess was less then pleased at the arrival, he shifted his weight to insert one foot into the doorway to prevent it from being able to slam all the way shut.]

she's been around enough smokers to know the differences.
she stands up almost immediately, her face pulled taught, and Eddie's foresight was correct because she does turn around to try to slam the door, hand on the lock. and of course it doesn't close because of that damned foot of his.
she remains holding onto the door handle, but tries to make the entrance as small as possible by bracing her free hand on the doorframe, looking Eddie square in the eye.]

[Meaning she's not getting a word on that. He stays put, not crowding her further or moving his (possibly rapidly healing) foot from the doorway. And look at him being all gentleman like, blowing the smoke off to the side instead of in her face.]

Christ, of all the habits Laurie had...it had to be smoking like him.
the wine she put down was looking really friendly, but if she moved away from the door he'd just force himself in. though it's not like he was giving her much of a choice.
she remains still braced against the door and its frame, holding his gaze.]
