[And like the proverbial cat that always managed to come back, standing on the other side of that door was one recently arrived Edward Blake. The latest cigar was out but not lit yet, and he paused halfway through the motion of bringing the lighter up to fix that when Sally suddenly opened up to give him a show.

He didn't comment for a moment, instead he took in the dress, the hair, the current posture from his noticed front row seat. Then with a flick of the wrist he loudly snapped the cover of the lighter off to the side on it's hinge and finished the task of bringing the flame up to the cigar. And, just to be on the safe side in case the hostess was less then pleased at the arrival, he shifted his weight to insert one foot into the doorway to prevent it from being able to slam all the way shut.]

[and she immediately regrets opening the door without actually looking, because while she gathers her purse from the ground, she hears the snap of the lighter, followed by the smell of-- oh great-- a cigar.

she's been around enough smokers to know the differences.

she stands up almost immediately, her face pulled taught, and Eddie's foresight was correct because she does turn around to try to slam the door, hand on the lock. and of course it doesn't close because of that damned foot of his.

she remains holding onto the door handle, but tries to make the entrance as small as possible by bracing her free hand on the doorframe, looking Eddie square in the eye.]

How the hell did you find this place?

Told ya before, Sally. You're a hell of a hard woman to miss.

[Meaning she's not getting a word on that. He stays put, not crowding her further or moving his (possibly rapidly healing) foot from the doorway. And look at him being all gentleman like, blowing the smoke off to the side instead of in her face.]

[she feels trapped as he stands there, and despite him being a gentleman she still makes a slight face at the smoke.

Christ, of all the habits Laurie had...it had to be smoking like him.

the wine she put down was looking really friendly, but if she moved away from the door he'd just force himself in. though it's not like he was giving her much of a choice.

she remains still braced against the door and its frame, holding his gaze.]

Why're you here?

Some law against checking in on old friends?

[He shifted slightly with that, actually moving a little weight off the foot holding the door open and on to the leg further from her. It's the closest to slight...something like discomfort she's going to get.]

I'm a big girl, I don't need someone checking in on me.

[there's a pause, and she moves her weight off the door frame. she still has a hold on the handle of the door, but it's lax, giving him some unintentional room.]

I have plans, Eddie.
