Still uncomfortable with the idea of walking around the City after dark without Father Squirrel there to protect her from mashers and muggers and other unpleasant types of people also beginning with the letter M, Mother (who was not one of them, despite her initials) had taken to doing her daily walks during the sunshine hours. Not only would she be able to see anyone suspicious approaching, others would be able to see her and help out if something did happen ( ... )

At that moment, Giselle was waving a couple off with a pair of cupcakes, beaming and letting a light, satisfied sigh escape her. When she turned her attention to the new body approaching, she gasped. She couldn't help it, because...Because that was the biggest squirrel she'd ever seen in her whole life! Of course, a hand went to her mouth to smother the codfish look she had going, but her big eyes still gave way. The expression persisted throughout Mother's remarks, lingered just a few moments thereafter until she could think to draw her hand away.

Her mouth began to split into a smile of delight. The biggest squirrel she'd ever seen, and...in such an adorable dress"Oh, goodness," she uttered, a delighted laugh mixed into her voice. She curtsied at the compliment. "Why, thank you so much! But I wasn't all by myself. I had a few friends helping me keep things in order, or I'd have lost my place, making so many things at once ( ... )

A promise of strawberries was pretty much the perfect way to get Kaylee to show up. Not that she minded being friendly, because it was certainly good for her.

So when she strolled into the park, she was pretty much giddily excited.

There were a lot of people in the City, that was known. But Giselle had also made a lot of goodies, so there was still a fair amount to pick and choose from by the time Kaylee found her way there. Besides, not everyone who came by chose to indulge - some weren't too fond of strawberries (understandable!), and others gave suspicious looks and just walked away faster (very strange...). But Giselle smiled and greeted them all; she did likewise when Kaylee was there, though much more eager, as hers was a face Giselle recognized.

"Oh! Kaylee! Over here!" She waved enthusiastically, beckoning her over. The pigeons were still mulling around expectantly, and there was a dog or two sniffing about amid children and curious passersby.

Grinning, Kaylee hurried over. "Jīngcǎi," she murmured appreciatively. "You really weren't kiddn' 'bout there bein' sweets 'nuff for ev'ryone."

"I told you!" she giggled, proudly placing her hands on her hips for just a moment for effect. "I just couldn't help myself, I think. But now you can help yourself. Take as much as you like - don't be shy!"

[Jack is coming back from -- God knows where, really, he may have stopped at a few specialty shops on the way back from the shooting range. In any case, he has some things in bags, but hey, pretty girl with food! Who is he to say no. So he heads over with a little wave and his most charming smile.]

Afternoon, miss.

[she was making a silly face at one of the dogs that had taken up camp, waiting for handouts. silly dog, you already had a piece! she giggles, then straightens, looking in the new stranger's direction and flashing a broad smile.]

Good afternoon, sir! Would you like something to eat? I still have so much!

I don't see why not, those strawberries look delicious. [He heads over to inspect some of the various food, smiling a little.]

I don't think we've ever had the opportunity to actually meet, yet. I'm Jack Harkness.

Zevran was in a good enough mood after the previous night; the festivities of the Doctor's party had, for the most part, finally banished the trouble with Khisanth from his mind. He was resilient like that.

The sight of Giselle in the park as he made his way through it only further brightened his mood. He headed over to her. "Bringing your crafts to market, my dear?" he called.

Whatever pleasantries and farewells Giselle had been sending away with a small group of snickering teenagers were halted the moment she heard that familiar voice. She whirled around, beaming with delight and exclaimed, "Zevran! Hello!"

But, as he was her friend, simple greetings like that just wouldn't do. She shuffled around her little fort of boxes and baskets and over to him, and there was really no escaping her embrace. "It's so good to see you again!"

That would never fail to surprise him. His eyes widened as she flung her arms around him, and he had to suppress the urge to flail. People didn't hug him! Not people as innocent and well-intentioned as Giselle, anyway. "Ah, you would think I had been gone to the far corners of the world. I didn't leave the City, Giselle. I have been fine. And you?"

Giselle drew away from him at length, shaking her head with a giggle at his remark. "You would think I'm not supposed to be happy to see a friend," she retorted brightly, giving his arm a squeeze before releasing him utterly. She turned to see where she was going, deftly stepping over her wares.

"Oh, I've been just fine, thank you. Keeping myself busy, so you see!" When she turned, she waved her arm across the small stockpile. "So you should try, too. You like strawberries, don't you?"

Around quarter to twelve - very glad Vivi's out of hospital so he could attend! vivi_sorrow July 6 2011, 09:45:46 UTC
Vivi had heard Giselle announce the availability of strawberry-flavoured goods, and he was very interested. He'd only had the raw strawberries so far, which he'd liked well enough especially since you couldn't get them on Gaia, but in anything else?

He toddled along with a thermos and a smile to where Giselle had set up, making no attempt to hide how in awe he was.

"I never knew there could be so many strawberry things..."

As if Giselle's smile could get any bigger; her face must've been in danger of splitting the moment she saw the adorable child head her way. She bent to be more at level with him, giggling gently at his plain-face wonder, finding it absolutely delightful.

"I didn't, either," Giselle replied. "When I went to buy strawberries, the kind old seller showed me a few cards with all kinds of different recipies! I just had to try. These, here--" she pointed at a basket of tarts, "--I'd never made these before, but they turned out just wonderful. You can try one, if you like!"

"I'd love to! Thank you!" Vivi exclaimed, taking a tart from the basket and studying it momentarily before taking a bite. After that first bite, the tart didn't last very long at all. Vivi was no stranger to tarts; it was more the flavour that was winning him.

"They're yummy!" he said. He was about to reach for another one when he stopped himself. "I shouldn't just try them though - what else is there?" he asked, not quite sure what to try next.

Giselle's nose crinkled with delight as she watched her work get gobbled up in no time at all. There was nothing more adorable than watching kids happily eat, she decided. And at his beckoning, she shuffled the baskets and boxes around and waved her hand over those she pointed out aloud:

"I made these little things called fritters, here, and this is the pie...and I made cupcakes here, and-! Well, well this isn't really baked, but it's chocolate to dip the berries in and it's very good. Go on!"
