Ned isn't the only one feeling more than apprehensive about finding himself an entirely different universe. Kate found herself restless throughout most of her first night, therefore she's barely gotten any rest. Thoughts are bouncing back and forth in her head, even now as she walks down the sidewalk, taking in her new surroundings. She almost doesn't notice the dog until Digby is by her side.

"No harm done. It's alright." She looks to Ned with a sheepish smile.

His lips twitch into a nervous smile of his own, already hunching over to regather Digby's leash. He isn't sure why, but Ned thinks he may have found a kindred spirit. Ted's comment about new people having a certain 'look' was starting to make a bit of sense.

"Did we interrupt anything interesting?" he asks pleasantly, noticing the pensive expression she had been wearing just a few seconds ago.

Although she shakes her head, she still gestures to the general area around them.

"Getting a feel of the City," she replies.

"And what's your feeling so far?" Digby barks, as if to back Ned up, still hovering close to Kate.

Her eyes train on the dog once more. It isn't that she dislikes dogs, or animals, but she's grown rather apathetic to them since certain dealings back in Gotham.

"Not sure yet," she tears her eyes off Digby and looks skyward, squinting against the sunlight. "It's only been a day for me."

"It's only been three for me. Well, two and a half in that this, is my third." He cuts himself off before he can ramble further, knitting his eyebrows together. "But surely you must have some feeling. Unless waking up in an alternate dimension is commonplace for you. And in that case, carry on."

It occurs her she hadn't asked anyone how often people were brought to this dimension or the average number of people on a daily, maybe weekly basis.

His inquiry makes her pause, considering how exactly to answer something so loaded. She loathes the feeling of being misplaced and it's beyond words to explain how discomforting it is, to realize you were caught off guard by something out there. Not knowing might be the worst part.

Her own eyebrows furrow. "It's unsettling, yeah."

Her admission is met with an immediately sympathetic look, and even Digby seems to feel badly for her. Ned knows what it is to be uncomfortable and has in fact been since he arrived. Though he's more accustomed to it than most.

"Unsettling is, an understatement, I think."

"Definitely an understatement," she adds. "Seems many others have settled into the city. At least, that's what I've gathered from talking to a few on the Network."

"I don't exactly see an alternative."

She searches her pockets and pulls out her sunglasses, quickly putting them on.

"Settling down here... getting a job... " she's lost in thought again. Damn it Nygma. She really is missing her financial support already.

He glances up briefly to see if the Sun was any brighter than it had been. Not that he notices. Perhaps it's just a defense mechanism, or she just has sensitive eyes. He really does read too much into these things.

"It's not what any of us planned, but that doesn't make surviving any less necessary." Part of him isn't sure if sanity will come with a new pie shop, or if he'll well and truly lose it, but he can't give up now. "Though it does seem futile, to make connections here, not knowing when we could be shipped home. And even if we go back, we could come back here..."

He takes a breath, really really needing it. "It's all very nerve-wracking."

She hardly pays it any heed and adjusts the sunglasses to sit properly on her nose, reaching up to tuck a lock of hair behind her ear.

However, Ned's comment evokes an odd look from her -- not that he can see it behind her dark shades. It seems troublesome when she thinks about it and there is no doubt in her mind that it must be emotionally exhausting for those who have been here for months. (Years, she corrects herself, reluctantly.)

"One hell of a predicament," her eyes trail to Digby and those red lips of hers quirk upwards. A sympathetic smile. "Man's best friend is here with you, at least?"

"Lucky for me," he agrees quickly, trying to smile too. What he doesn't say is that it's unlucky for poor Digby. He must miss Olive and Chuck and even Emerson just as much as Ned himself does. And at least they can touch him.

"But it definitely is one hell of a predicament, as you say." Ned nods, sympathetic for her as well. So many people here in the City didn't seem bothered at all, or even admitted to being happier here than back home. He hopes he'll never come to feel that way.

"I didn't even realize the Porter could drag in a pet with you." A pause. Maybe she's assuming. "Is he from your home?"

"Neither has anyone else I've spoken to." A beat. "Yes, I've known Digby all his life." Or all his two.
