School was starting to become one of his only safe havens. No one expected him to be anything more than a student--an anti-social one, at that.
He was fine with that image, although it wasn't without its own problems. It meant he could do his work and not think about anything else. Quatre served as another buffer between him and the rest of the class, whether the other realized it or not. Quatre was good at handling the real world. Better than the rest of them had ever been.
But even the normally calming thought of the other pilot being nearby was turning into one of worry, and for the past couple of days, Heero had been eating his lunch in the most isolated places he could manage. It gave him time to ground himself for the rest of the day. So far, Quatre hadn't been seeking him out.
He should've known that it wouldn't have lasted for much longer.
