Slipstream was more than a little interested to see the newest Kaiba edition to the City in person, honestly. She'd assisted her employer in avoiding police action by shooting out and otherwise disabling some of the red light cameras and speed traps, but stayed well away when they actually met up. Some alone time was probably in order, she'd decided.

Still, she was curious to see this human child, especially with the orders to give him whatever he wanted she'd received from on high. Perhaps he could be of use to her. Maybe it could even be fun.

So, she was sitting very attentively as the elevator made its way up. Moreso than usual, even.

The elevator brought them up to the executive floor. Kaiba of course was the first one out. Outwardly he was exactly the same as any other day. However he did level a far more challenging glare than his normal indifferent glance.

The meaning was evident if silent, 'Yes he's with me, whatever flippant thing you're thinking about saying to either me or him, remember that I'm still your boss and keep it to your damn self.'

Mokuba peeked around his brother at the unfamiliar hallway. He had been tempted to slip his hand into his brother's on the ride up because of the unfamiliarity, but was now glad he hadn't. The secretary was already looking at them.

The new secretary looked younger and prettier than the old one. He eyed her suspiciously, wondering if she'd also yell at him for roller-skating down the hall.

Younger, prettier, and with glowing red eyes, no less. Slipstream smiled very pleasantly at the two of them, inwardly giving the young human a once-over. Hm.

"Good morning, Mr. Kaiba, Mr. Kaiba. So nice to meet you in person. My name is Slipstream. Would you like me to have any refreshments sent in for you?"

Yes, see? Pleasant! So pleasant it almost hurt her to talk.

Having missed notice of Mokuba's arrival through the network the night before, Ruka had little reason to suspect this day would be any different from the usual at the Kaiba Corporation offices. Like usual, it was mid-afternoon when she arrived, and like usual she took the stairs all the way up to her office - quite the climb, as it was on the third floor from the top. Once she got to her office, it'd be work on a new set of Synchro, some harvested from her memories of a future Domino, and the rest of her own creation.

Like usual.

What? Another child? This is not done! the_other_kaiba March 18 2011, 00:36:45 UTC
Roller skates not procured yet, Mokuba had no choice but to walk through the building.

Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk. Of course, there were also frequent stops to look into rooms and see what people were doing. Memorizing faces, of course.

Adult on laptop. Adult on phone. Adult drinking.... probably a soda. Adult with some coffee and a magazine. Adult-- Whoa! Not interested in that.

Adult on-- Young girl in office? What was this madness?

"You!" he demanded, standing dramatically and pointing an accusing finger. "Who are you?"

It's madness and totally not fair. (also: assuming Seto isn't right with him atm?) gallitrap March 18 2011, 00:59:07 UTC
Lost in concentration, Ruka didn't even notice the boy in the doorway until his voice rang out; her head snapped up in an instant, pigtails bouncing, and looked his way. Her first thought was that something was wrong, but upon seeing him - some kid, younger than she, practically theatrical in stance - she could only blink several times in confusion.

It was a good thing he was so far away, and that her bangs were so long; he wouldn't be able to see the twitch or furrow of her eyebrows.

"... Ruka," she answered calmly, seeming unfazed. "And you are?"

Really! There's only enough room for one child, and Mokuba has dibs. the_other_kaiba March 18 2011, 01:04:25 UTC
"I am Kaiba Mokuba!" He paused before correcting himself. "Mokuba Kaiba! Why are you in my office building?"

Kaiba had planned to spend most of the day showing his brother around the new buildings. However, some things couldn't be put off. He raced through them as quickly as he could, but it still took until midday. While normally Kaiba would last the whole day without leaving the office, Mokuba required more. Since they had to go to the other building eventually, they might as well stop to eat on the way.

It was on the way to this errand, that they ran into Bakura. The executive elevator stopped at the ground floor at the same time that the receptionist was asking Bakura to fill out a visitors pass. Kaiba inwardly sighed, knowing there was no way he was getting out without being bothered first.

Mokuba has no such feelings of annoyance at Bakura. All he remembered of him from home was waking up at Duelist Kingdom with only Bakura around. And then the conversation over the comm hadn't been bad.

And Niisama had said that Bakura would tell him about the City.

"Bakura!" Mokuba raced over, grabbing the older boy by the arm. "Tell me about superpowers."

It hadn't taken him long to figure it out, but after being demoted from head of the D-Wheel project to just a regular engineer, he'd found that he actually liked things better this way. It meant a lot less time meeting with lawyers and shareholders and stuff and a lot more time actually working with the bikes themselves, and that was unquestionably where Bruno felt the most at home. He hadn't let any of this on to Kaiba, of course; for one thing, he was still half afraid that Kaiba was going to kick him off the project for good any second. And for another, he hadn't so much as spoken to Kaiba since that very brief, very very uncomfortable meeting shortly after that soul-stealing thing, in which Bruno had finally explained to his boss exactly what he was ( ... )

They had spent most of the day at KaibaLand and the other office, but the tour wouldn't be complete without going to the other headquarters. The Kaiba Corporation development office was well outside the City limits. It housed the all important duel server, and Kaiba would not allow that to be threatened by being in the often combustible City. The drive out wasn't bad, and they had passed some land and suburbs that had Kaiba thinking about their future living arrangements.

Kaiba led Mokuba first to the viewing areas to watch the testing with the other engineers. They of course filled Kaiba in on the testing and who the current rider was. He was most interested in the speeds at the moment. "Good it can finally hold it's own," he said at seeing the top speeds they had been getting.

That out of the way he turned back to Mokuba to show him the best area to view the track. "This is the future of dueling," he explained. "You saw the ride at KaibaLand, these will be able to be used on the streets."

It is doubtful that Mokuba even heard, as his eyes were glued to the rider. Yes, he'd seen the ride at KaibaLand, but that was NOTHING compared to this! He was leaning so far over the rail in rapt attention that he was in danger of falling over it.

Considering that shortly in front of the railing was a thick layer of safety glass (to guard onlookers from the possible debris from a crash at these speeds), he wouldn't have exactly have had far to fall, but still.

Although just then, Bruno happened to be slowing down over the course of one last lap so that he could pull back into the 'pit' and punch in his observations so far. Still completely unaware of his audience, incidentally.

Although Ysera respected Kaiba's request for her to stay out of his own dreams, that didn't mean she could just shut off sensing his dreams. Or that she didn't give him and his Blue Eyes White Dragon an open invite to visit her in her own adjacent dream. Sometimes they took her up on it, sometimes not ( ... )

The tour of KaibaLand naturally included the food stands. He may not have had time to make a security card for Mokuba, but an employee tab card for anything in KaibaLand had only taken a moment. It would work until all of the employees learned to recognize Mokuba instantly and know to just charge it as such. That was why, Kaiba didn't need to actually follow Mokuba around to each of the stands. He wasn't hungry at all, and it was a good chance to make Mokuba practice his English some more ( ... )

We've saved you some party! the_other_kaiba March 21 2011, 23:16:28 UTC
He had indeed made a decision. He'd gotten some of everything; or at least everything he could carry. Niisama could share! He had a hamburger, and a corndog, and french fries, and onion rings, and fried dough that came with something called "maple butter." It was sweet, which meant it was good.

Holding the packages of food gleefully, he started to trot over to his brother when his attention was grabbed by a lady with green hair. He veered in her direction, staring openly.

"That costume is great!"

It wasn't long before Ysera spotted Kaiba, just in time for him to glance back her way and see her in return. She smiled and inclined her head respectfully, despite his eye rolling. His skepticism was still amusing, and she wouldn't let it deter her either.

She didn't see the boy from the comms with Kaiba, and was about to approach him to ask, when she was stopped by hearing the voice of the same boy she'd been looking for. Looking down through closed eyes, she smiled warmly at the boy, her long ears twitching with amusement. Most City-dwellers were so used to imports that they didn't consider her to be wearing a costume anymore; except here in KaibaLand.

"I thank you for the compliment, though it is not a costume, young one."
