Just like last time.

Alastair was down, unconscious, collapsed into a heap on the sidewalk with his gray coat spread around him. The instant his soul had been surrendered to the rules of the Oricalchos power, the others he had been storing in spell cards released of their own accord, flickering out into the sky over the City to return to their rightful places. Whether they had been trapped for the weekend or just for a few hours, they were all now back where they belonged.

Except Alastair's. His soul was in the last card still stuck in his duel disk. And he would stay that way until the time limit of his power expired, though he didn't know that - no one did.

As soon as Alastair started to collapse, Kiryu was running over to him from where he'd perched to watch the duel. He hardly even noticed the other souls flying away; the only one that mattered right now was Alastair's, and he knew--he knew--as soon as his arm stopped hurting, that it was gone.

But it still hurt when he dropped to his knees next to Alastair and tugged him into his lap and Alastair was obviously still alive but not moving...back home, when he had taken souls, there were no bodies left either, so this was...

"Alastair..."

Kaiba hadn't moved yet. It seemed less dramatic than the last time without a plane about to crash. The circle contracting, signaling the end of the duel. He put the cards in his hand back into his deck. He wasn't needed to carry Alastair away this time, Kiryu could do that.

The display in front of him was to personal for him. He turned his head to not have to look at it. What idiots.

Kiryu heard Kaiba shifting and glanced up; he'd almost forgotten the man was there. He wasn't as important as checking on Alastair. But he was was the one responsible for this, and he seemed to know what all of this was about. All Kiryu knew was that Alastair used to have that power but not much about it.

He carefully shifted Alastair back to the ground and got to his feet, the air around him rippling as it steadily grew warmer. He doubted Kaiba would care, but damn if it didn't feel good.

"How do I get him back?"

Kaiba looked backed, when he was addressed. Why would he ask him that? The Oricalchos was acting similar to how it had before. But there was no Doma to give the souls to. The souls were trapped in cards instead of a stone wall. They had been released before by defeating Doma, but there was no way to do that now. For all he knew the theft was permanent.

"You don't," Kaiba said, after thinking it through.

Kiryu froze, staring at him wide-eyed and very pale. He couldn't come back...? That wasn't...that couldn't be true. There had to be a way...the way Alastair had been talking, there was a way for souls to go back. There had to be a way.

"THAT'S A LIE!" he snarled. Several lines of fire suddenly streaked across the ground toward Kaiba, although they fizzled out before they quite got there. The air around him started sparking with flames. That couldn't be true. He had to come back.

Kaiba stepped back from the fire coming towards him. That was unexpected. He had no idea what anyone's powers were. He liked to avoid the whole question. But it was hard to ignore it when the fire was coming directly at him.

First he had to stop Alastair from his self-righteous rampage, and now he was being blamed for it by idiots accomplice. He wasn't having any of it.

"Then prove me wrong."

And if either of them happened to notice, the growing flood of light that the fire was causing briefly illuminated a human figure laying, collapsed but starting to softly stir, just within the opening to a previously pitch-black alley nearby.

Kiryu was about to retort, about to do something, although he wasn't sure what, when his mark flared up again and then stopped glowing completely, taking the black eyes and red line on this face and his powers with it. He hissed a little, but he wasn't completely surprised. He'd been using his powers constantly all weekend; they had to go sometime. The most inconvenient time.

"Tch, since you're completely useless..." he muttered, sneering at Kaiba again. He knelt down again just long enough to carefully pick up Alastair and started walking off toward the alley. Their bikes were parked near there.

Kaiba waited for the attack that didn't come; no duel and no fire. The insult was just pathetic. At least it wasn't his job to carry Alastair this time.

"His body's still alive," he said to Kiryu as the other walked away. "Take him to a hospital if you intend to keep it that way."

The person(...?) slowly and haltingly tried to movie its arms, put weight on them, tried to peel its... his?, face off of the frigid pavement. No thought yet, just the awareness of light and sound where just now there had been... nothing.

Bright red flickering arrays on his eyes as he internally rebooted, re-routed cognition back onto its original pathways. A few faint choking noises from his throat as it dawned on him again that he had one.

Kiryu almost glared back at him again, because he wasn't stupid, he knew that, but he really didn't want to deal with Kaiba anymore. And the red light in the alley caught his attention first. He sped up a bit to get a better look, and the abruptly stopped when he recognized who was there. Considering the last time he'd been this close to Bruno, the man looked like a Decepticon and was trying to kill them...

But he did remember seeing those souls flying off... "Bruno...?"

Kaiba was about to turn away, when he heard Kiryu mention Bruno. Bruno had been following him around all weekend. It was disturbing to say the least, having a soulless being following you around asking for orders. He'd told him to stay back at KaibaCorp before coming after Alastair.

He didn't move from his spot yet. He could see everything from where he was. Including the red eyes that had been staring at him for over a day.

Fortunately for Kaiba, the red eyes were gone quickly. Kiryu saying Bruno's name seemed to jump-start something; the tiny arrays snapped into alignment and vanished, and Bruno gasped sharply as his head snapped up and he looked frantically around the alley.

"W-what?? I--" His eyes fell on Kiryu and he stared up at him with a small startled cry as though he expected to be attacked. "K-Kiryu!"

Kiryu winced but he wasn't really surprised Bruno reacted like that, considering the last time they'd run into each other. He felt a little guilty about that, no matter how he justified it to himself. but hopefully he didn't look too threatening at the moment. He certainly didn't feel threatening.

"Hey, Bruno," he said quietly. "How're you doing?"
