They had stuck Frank down in Solitary for the duration of his stay at the prison. A smart decision on their part. Placing him in GenPop would have just let him keep himself busy while he waited to escape. Instead all he could do was wait. Wait, listen, and plan. Sooner or later he'd find a hole, a moment when the guards were distracted, and he'd be out. All he had to do was to be patient.
The fact that it was Christmas Eve barely even registered in his mind. He had spent so long without his family that the holiday held little meaning to him anymore. It was just another season now. It only mattered this year because he was in prison, and he was hoping that the holiday might cause the guards to slack off and give him an opportunity to exploit. So that is why Frank was laying on his bunk, staring up at the ceiling, and counting how long it took the guard to walk his route through Solitary. So far he'd been very consistent, but too quick for Frank to do anything with it. Maybe he'd have better luck after the shift change.
