I see all hell has broken loose in my teleporter-induced absence, though it appears as if not too much time has passed yet. Lovely. Could someone please inform me as to why everyone is acting in a radically uncharacteristic manner?

There are creatures loose in the City, called Polymorphs. They feed on emotions. Presumably, once these things are killed, the person whose emotion they stole will return to their former state.

Might I ask what they look like and whether mental wards might be able to block their abilities?

They take a form that provokes an emotional response in their victim. A lost loved one, for instance. Be very cautious.

I don't know how useful a mental ward would be. Better safe than sorry.

Then I may have an answer. I know of a spell that controls the powers of such beings as shapeshifters. I must first attend to an afflicted friend, but as soon as the matter is resolved, I can at least retrieve the tome from which it comes and give that to you, though I fear I shall be too busy to teach it personally myself.

But, danger or no, Desdemona, it very much sounds as if you need someone to be there for you. I do not know if the others are, but from how you speak, it very much sounds as if they have not.
