Here it is Valentine's Day, and I'm... leaving town. But with my partner, Hawk. 😀 We're flying to San Diego this evening for a three-day weekend. Monday night we'll split, though. She'll fly home while I fly on to Las Vegas for a business trip. It's my company's annual sales kickoff conference. I'll fly home from that Thursday night.
Running these two trips, one leisure and one business, back to back isn't ideal but it's what works. Monday is President's Day, and we wanted to take advantage of the three day weekend by traveling. ...Well, for Hawk it's a three day weekend; my company doesn't give a holiday on Monday. But that's not a problem because I'm still keen to
spend the last few days of my devalued time-off policy.
I planned this trip last month knowing I'd have to go straight from it to Vegas for the sales meeting. No big deal; Vegas is a short flight from San Diego. The main complication is having to pack a suitcase with everything from hiking boots to a dinner jacket and bowtie.
As for what we'll do in San Diego this weekend... other than going hiking somewhere, we don't know. 😜 We're bringing a few of our guidebooks with us. We'll look through them tonight and/or tomorrow to pick some treks out. We took
a similar trip to San Diego last year January and it worked out really well, with enjoyable hikes at
Garnet Peak,
Cuyamaca Peak, and
Torrey Pines so we're confident we'll find plenty of options this time, too. That's why we're not bothered we're about to fly out of town for the weekend with no specific plans for what's next.
