cedar and mesquite
limestone and granite
fields of red and blue and yellow and pink
corn drying in the field
tufts of cotton wafting in the wind
grackles sitting so thick on the powerlines that their silhouette in the sunset looks like one solid line
crepe myrtle trees blossoming brilliant pink and crimson in the blistering august heat when the rest of the world turns brown and brittle
wrought iron and leather
fajitas and guacamole
red enchiladas and barbecue brisket
red dirt carried hundreds of miles on the wind
armadillos, possums and raccoons
peaches and pecans
thunderstorms that last all night with booms so close your windows shake
lake water so warm that your skin wrinkles up
blue sky that goes on forever so close you could fall into it and fly away
