More recs for
china_shop/china_shop's Fandom Appreciation Challenge! :D Today's mission is to post at least three recs for fanworks posted at least six months ago. Since I did podfic yesterday, I thought I'd switch tracks (hurr hurr) and rec some mixes instead.

These Bright Lights by flutterfingers
Supernatural, Jo/Castiel
If you like mixes, please please please give this mix a try, even if you might be inclined to scroll by. I know that several of you reading this right now have already left love on it and you can also undoubtedly attest to the fact that there is no bad here.
I have flaily, flaily hands for this mix and I'm going to tell you why. I ran into this mixer's work through Putting on that Midnight Smile (dancy, up-tempo Ruby/Anna, and I love it to pieces as well - bam, stealth rec!) and wound up looking for more. This mix tells the clear, concise, incredibly easy to follow story of of Jo's seduction of Castiel, mostly through R&B and rap. (Hearing Castiel represented by 50 Cent had me laughing all the way down the street.) The mix gets unexpectedly sexy in places and even more unexpectedly thoughtful at the end. So give it a shot! Enjoy the story and use your Castiel disco stick icons when you comment. THEY WILL BE TOPICAL

King of Swing by myszelina
White Collar, Neal-centric
In a nutshell, it's everything that's outrageous and stylish and wonderful about Neal Caffrey, all captured effortlessly by the Big Band era. I don't have lot more to say, except to emphasize how much fun it is listening to this mix. (You could even say that I feel my bones a-shakin and my temperature a-risin', then the groove begins to move me, because Neal's King of Swing :P)

Wolf Like Me by autochaotic at noisybox
Avatar: The Last Airbender, Sokka-centric.
I really love the focus of this mix on Sokka-as-warrior. It's a side of the character that often seems to gets downplayed, but it's just as much a part of him as bending is for the others. The mix has often got a frantic sort of feel that sometimes dips into gritty, with a great, serious beat that's sustained most of the way through and really drives home the sense of conflict and fighting. (The title song! Eeek, so perfect!) All of that, without erasing the softer edges of the character ("Yoga Means Union") and the fact that Sokka is a fundamentally silly kind of guy ("Nobody But Me" makes me laugh every time!) The mixer even manages to capture Sokka's occasional penchant for self-reflection, the intelligence he hides behind so many bad puns and outrageous plans. (Although the hosting for the cover art has gone down, the download for the mix is still good, so don't be scared off!)
