Sometimes, I like to imagine that "Merlin" was a show that was as much about Morgana's journey as it was about Merlin's and how he confided in her in season two when she desperately needed that support but she went her own way anyway, because none of that makes her not Morgana, with her own temper and history and opinions, but she maybe doesn't turn him in right away because they still love and respect each other and because maybe the last thing she wants to do is to turn a magic user over to Uther Pendragon, but they're on really fucking different sides of this struggle and Morgana is made to be this beautifully lovely, nuanced character who maybe visibly grapples with the increasingly awful things she does, but justifies them in the name of the greater good (even when it's killing other magic users, even when it's robbing other magic users of their very magical talents) and where Merlin is just as flawed as she is, because he lets magic users suffer and die for exactly the same reasons and eventually Morgana gives up on keeping Merlin's secret because it turns nasty and bitter like so many ideological rifts do, and Arthur probably finds out a sooner than he did in canon and it complicates things in a really beautiful, messy way for everyone, because maybe by now Morgana's already destroyed Uther's mind when she temporarily crowned herself queen and there's a lot of Arthur trying to reconcile what he knows of magic and what he knows of Merlin and Morgana tries to drive that wedge deeper, because it is getting dark and hard and maybe at this point she is just too bitter and angry to see that Arthur really might be in the process of bringing about the change Merlin is so sure he will, or she's come to far to admit she's wrong now and basically, Morgana gets a story arc, not a series of plot points.
