Lots of anti-Suzuki ranting going on in the blogosphere. Some of it deserved. He has good and bad days like the rest of us. But I don't trust his agenda

That's not at all the same as saying, "we shouldn't bother trying". It's saying a more diverse approach is desired. It's the eggs in several baskets theory.
As the other poster pointed out, an online poll is in no way scientific, and everyone knows that online polls get spammed to death when they're on controversial topics. Whenever the Globe runs a poll on any polarising issue, you can tell that word got out to the for and and against sides to get their troops to spam the poll. During the Israeli-Hisballah conflict this summer, the Israeli government provided software for people to spam polls on the matter so that the results would be in favour of Israel. Given the results of the Suzuki poll, i'd guess the crowd over at SDA mobilised and when voting...
I question the intentions of global warming activists who focus all their attention on nagging people about their lightbulbs, and yet pay no attention to the supposedly detrimental effect of livestock. Are they all in the dairy/meat industry's back pocket?
That's funny, because in fact, when you meet environmentalists, you find a large number of them are vegetarians, and one reason they're in favour of vegetarianism is because of the definitely, not supposedly, detrimental effect of livestockAnd, btw, lightbulbs are a very interesting case. Over the lifetime of a compact fluorescent bulb, I save enough money in electricity costs to pay for the bulb a few times over. Plus I have only ever had to replace one (cos it was built with a shitty housing - no wonder, I bought it at Canadian Tire
( ... )
You know what has an even more "detrimental effect" than livestock? Trees and oceans. Man. Those guys create a TON of greenhouse gases. We should totally ban them.
But you know, if we start talking about that, people might actually look at how weak the science is for "human-caused climate change" - and we can't have that, it's a whole groovy self-righteous political movement, now.
Compact fluorescents save me no money as extremely chilly Ottawa temperatures seem to kill them off every single winter.
I'm actually not particularly pro-Suzuki, though I like his stance on salmon. I.e., that we should eat them, and therefore we shouldn't make them go extinct.
What pisses me off is people identifying a large worldwide problem with one guy's slideshow presentation and then saying "this guy's slideshow is evil, and therefore there's no problem".
Loose? Personally? I've decided to go without toast, even at Subway. I eat my steak rare. I don't cook salmon unless it's an open fire. I'm experimenting with homemade solar heating for hot water and got it up to 130F just this morning. I don't own a car. Therefore I think I'm saving energy where I can.
Harper making concessions? Well I'm loosing the chance at seeing a Green Party MP being elected in my riding and that concerns me. I'm a practical guy and do see the benefits of more environmental policies being implemented but I don't like bullshit being spun by hypocritical pro-Kyoto, DaveSuzuki and AlGore types.
Nobody is anti-environment. Nobody likes pollution of any kind. To believe that they do is thinking the worst of mankind. Still the pseudo-science of Suzuki/Gore types has lemmings jumping over Kyoto, while anti-Kyoto types are branded as greedy psychopaths. A little sane re-examination is required
( ... )
Now I see the problem. Because David Suzuki is beating the same drum as Al Gore vis-a-vis the environment, that makes him a left-leaning, freedom-hating, soft-on-terror liberal and therefore anything he says is agenda driven.
I'm against the idea of a high carbon emitting 500cc two-stroke engine powered toaster. But essentially that's what happens when you toast your bread. Maybe not. Maybe it's wind-dro powered toast.
Suzuki has more then one residence. You only need one. Common sense says two houses requires more energy then is required for economical living. I don't know his personal net worth, but it's safe to say he commands a pretty decent salary.
Profits are being accelerated in anticipation of Kyoto. Deforestation in NZ. That's what's so dangerous.

Bank of America sees profits in carbon trading and it's a cartel, not new investment
