Varian 'Douchebag' Wrynn AKA Lo'Gosh

Feb 22, 2010 11:38

I'm sure a majority of non-human players will agree with me that his middle name is, infact, douchebag. Anyway. Onto why he's a Sue. Behind an LJ-Cut for spoiler reasons for characters who have not leveled enough to play out Battle For Undercity and also people who haven't read the comic or WoWwiki. Interestingly enough, Thrall is the target of ( Read more... )

Now the moral of choosing a fight between the Alliance and the Horde can be debated, that's probably not what we're here for.

On Annoying Origin:
Now the idea about him losing his memory is probably the worst idea they ever had, but the rest of the story puts on a somewhat coherent and rational pace from there. It seems that the Alliance the the Horde (judging by the comics) are only fighting on a few select areas, and those who do fight are in independent militia (battlegrounds in-game feature co-dependent factions like Silverwing Sentinels, etc).

Eye Colour: Either black or blue, I really can’t make heads or tails of it, I’m going to read ‘Arthas’ later, maybe that will describe his eye colour in more detail.

Want my advice? DO NOT READ ARTHAS: RISE OF THE LICH KING. Arthas's personality was twisted beyond human understanding and even more than that. I've done a few reviews on it, and if you like Warcraft III Arthas, do not soil that with the annoying whiny insipid incoherent crap that the book Arthas is. There's a lot of ( ... )

It is my first real stint reporting a canon sue so I wasn't really certain what I was doing or what to make of this. I didn't know if it was different than sporking an actual fanfic sue. Also I was kind of doing this in a rush and to be fair, it might have been better if I'd left it to someone who can look more objectively and has less of a seething hate for Varian Wrynn.

without...well...becoming the Lich King or being corrupted

I think the key word in that is *yet*. He didn't have corruption going into it in the same way Arthas did, but there's nothing saying what time will do to him.

how did he get in the Throne Room in the first place--?

I haven't done that raid yet, but I'm assuming he was death-knightified by Arthas, and that Arthas wanted to keep such a prize pet nearby.

I agree with you, I think he's an atrocious Stu, and worse than that, Stu-created-by-committee. It's like a bunch of Blizz staff sat down and said "dude, we need an Alliance version of Thrall". And then ganked a whole section of Thrall's background (enslavement, gladiatorial combat) and, instead of the part where Thrall learns that rage isn't the way and becomes a steady, capable leader... Wrynn becomes a roid-raging racist dickweasel. And a really shitty king, to boot.

(And you won't find someone who plays and cares about the lore who will look at this objectively. You either get "it puts the 'war' back in 'warcraft' and the Horde sucks, go team!" or "yeah, he's an asshole, we apologize for this jerk on behalf of the Alliance/I'm Horde and hate him and want to kill him please". But to me, the Stuish part is the whole "let's take background we've ALREADY USED for another hero and put it together like a paint-by-the-numbers 'hero' figure" part.)

Yeah, maybe that's the reason for my deep seated hatred of Varian Wrynn. See, I REALLY liked Thrall and I REALY liked Jaina, so....yeah. Also, I generally play Horde (if Blood Elf can rightly be called 'Horde', however in my defense I initially had a Troll) but anyway, point being, you're right now I think about it, it is a direct rip of Thrall.

My main is an human pally but I never could stand the guy. When the Horde raids Stormwind I usually just stand aside and cheer for them.
