I had my last Labour Studies 101 class the other day. Interesting, I thought it might ease my transition to once more being a unionized worker somehow, but I didn't expect that a unionized job would just fall in my lap in the middle of the course

Unrelated to this post, but even less related to the one newer post, so here: have you read this old "futurist" book "the third wave" by an Alvin Toffler? I picked it up (cough cough picked...) recently, after several of my teachers have been mentioning it over the last decade, enough that I would remember the title. I just started reading it, but wonder if you read it maybe?
I imagine there are hundreds of books of the kind - explaining post-industrial versus industrial societies and predicting this and that (even if the book is older than I am..., all the people who recommended it - did that because they thought it was actually playing out that way) and like with all these books I'm scrolling over the drama and trying to get at tip on where the bullets come from next time around...

Nope, never heard of it.. I should check it out, along with the other book you mentioned a while ago!
Now that I work in an academic library, there's no excuse that I can't find a book, even if I have to order it in..

If I were you, I'd leave it for after I'm out of school again and have time ;) But then again, I'm the slowest reader I know.

hehe, well, my exams are in a week, so maybe I'll read it over my 2-week break.

PS. OMG if you do look him up, maybe better yet read the book called "Powershift" - very on-topic regarding Labor studies!!

hehe, I have the book (3rd wave) but haven't opened it til after my exams.. ominously, when i was borrowing it a librarian told me to "take it with a grain of salt" when I read it, lol..

You should befriend that librarian -- I am 1/3rd fascinated and 2/3rds terrified of that book too. Talk to you after the exams ;) Good luck!!!

Hehe, I actually do know him a lil bit.. so I trust his judgement, but also yours :)

The judgement is the same, but I still find it an interestng and useful read. I would be entirely terrified of it if I was thinking of my own criticism of the book's "optimism". However, my brain is beyond repair to the effect that whatever I read, the little imaginary Slavoj Žižek commentary runs automatically and dismisses the troublesome presumptions and attitudes without me actually dreaming about them and waking up in tears.
