On The Renaissance Festival
Ren Faire. One of the geek meccas. Where most of the attendees are theoretically washed, and the ones that aren't can expect the open air to neutralize some of their odor. Turkey legs, chicken on a stick, butterfly chips, kissing wenches, mead, and any number of interesting wares to purchase. I still remember the first time I went. I was in 6th grade and I heard we were going on a field trip to a place called The Renaissance Festival. I was already a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy, so the premise was interesting to me, and the second I set foot on those grounds, I knew I was coming back. They had some exhibit on torture methods over the years that I went through with rapt fascination, the food was actually pretty good unlike many similar events, I loved so many of the interesting things they had for sale, and I vowed to come back again and actually dress up. The second time I attended, I did get my first piece of garb, and it's all gone downhill since then.
I'm very curious as to who's going this year. Looks like I finally have some other people willing to go with me multiple times, the first of which will be this coming Saturday. It's apparently going to be Matthew, his friend Heath, myself, and potentially another person, and it looks like the meetup group is going that same day to after hearing we were going. I always run into a bunch of people I know there. I remember last time I went, the local furs had decided to go the same day my group went. Seeing Evan (Tigerpaw) in a codpiece was...interesting. Also ran into a friend of Josh's last time (he's pretty hot, commonly cosplays at anime and scifi conventions as Sephiroth), and when I went with Mike and several other friends, Mike even saw a guy he knew all the way from North Carolina. So...I always run into someone. I just have to wonder who it'll be this year.
P.S. If anyone else wants to be at the Georgia Renaissance Festival opening weekend, they have some kind of buy one get one half price special online, and I will be attending as stated, so feel free to track me down and say hi. The group I'm attending with should be here all day from opening to close, and the meetup group should be there after noon I believe.
