Here are the notes you requested.
It would appear the giant hole has grown ten feet wider in diameter since the first report of its strange expansion.
Growing steadily, but not evenly. Every expansion is preceded by an earthquake - the severity of which determines the amount of growth. The source instigating this growth has yet to be determined. I have walked the entire circumference of the hole and have found no machinery or discovered any magic seals of any sort that I can readily determine. Such a thing may exist, but I may not be equipped to notice it.
Day 1
In the 15 hours in which I observed the phenomenon, four earthquakes hit.
1) Small tremor, growth of two inches.
2) Large tremor, growth of eight inches.
3) Medium tremor, growth of six inches.
4) Large tremor, growth of 13 inches.
The hole has expanded so far it is reaching the dead tree. The roots of which can now be seen extending into the hole itself. I predict that within the next two days, the tree itself will be consumed. At this rate, it is only a matter of time before it starts approaching the village. Should that happen, people should be relocated to the forests, as far from the hole as possible.
Day 2
Observation from mid-morning to early evening, seven earthquakes ranging from mild to large tremors. Total growth 3 feet 2 inches. The tree has fallen faster than I predicted. It is barely hanging onto the ground, over half of it is exposed.
Day 3
Observation from early morning to mid-afternoon, four earthquakes ranging from small to mild tremors. Total growth 1 foot 7 inches. The tree has succumbed to the giant hole. Still no signs of any machine that could be creating the earthquakes near the hole. Will attempt to search the surrounding area for clues.
Day 4
Observation halted in order to search surrounding area for machinery or clues to the source. Search lasted from early morning to late night, nine small earthquakes recorded. Surrounding trees, plains and the beach and mountains reveal nothing out of the ordinary. Total growth of the hole was a surprising 7 inches, the least so far. Perhaps it is slowing down.
Day 5
Observation from early morning to late night, five earthquakes all large tremors. Apparently it is making up for the previous day as it has grown a total of 4 feet 8 inches today. It is approaching the village at a faster rate than I assumed now, and I fear that it will be two or three weeks at most before it reaches the outer edge of the settlement.
