Gintoki-san. Thank you for taking care of Tyke. I'll be back shortly in order to retrieve him.
And I'm sorry, but I wasn't able to find your milk for you. I'm afraid, I was busy for the majority of the day and was unable to forage as much as I would have liked.
It would appear the giant hole has grown ten feet wider in diameter since the first report of its strange expansion.
Growing evenly, but not steadily. Every expansion is preceded by an earthquake - the severity of which determines the amount of growth.
In the 15 hours in which I observed the phenomenon, four earthquakes hit.
1) Small tremor, growth of two inches.
2) Large tremor, growth of eight inches.
3) Medium tremor, growth of six inches.
4) Large tremor, growth of 13 inches.
The source instigating this growth has yet to be determined. I have walked the entire circumference of the hole and have found no machinery or discovered any magic seals of any sort that I can readily determine. Such a thing may exist, but I may not be equipped to notice it.
The hole has expanded so far it is reaching the dead tree. The roots of which can now be seen extending into the hole itself. I predict that within the next two days, the tree itself will be consumed. At this rate, it is only a matter of time before it starts approaching the village. Should that happen, people should be relocated to the forests, as far from the hole as possible.
On that note, it would seem that supplies are growing wane. I went to gather at the area I usually go to and I found that most of the trees which usually restock within 48 hours still have not grown their usual fruit.
This is a most troubling discovery, and until it is confirmed, will need to remain secret so as not to incite panic among the residents.
