1.75 inches of rain last night starting after 11 pm and ending before 2am. Not sure the exact times. There was thunder and lightening, and the streets were flooding. Last night we had gone to see The Brothers Grimm (I would rent it but it wasn't all that spectacular in my opinion) and there was no sing of rain that i could tell. When we got out of the theater at 11:45 the streets were already flooding, and the rain was like going through a carwash. I was driving, and frankly, i ahve never driven in a storm that bad, but luckily there wasn't a whole lot of traffic and people were being safe and going slow. My car actually hydroplaned a bit, which I have never experienced before. it reminded me of when my mom used to take us to the santa ynez river and drive through the river to make huge splashes (where the road went through of course!) Then I was trying to get into the parking lot, and we have to use Proxy cards (little white card you hold up to the box by the gate and it lets you in) but mine isn't working right now for some reason (perhaps because i left it in the car, though val and my roomie had done that last year to no ill effects) so I am sitting there in my car, my window down, water just pouring in, with my hand out the window trying not to drop my card. Well, thankfully there were other people in the car with proxy cards, so we did get in the parking lot. Then getting from the parking lot to Jones we got drenched, and it is only 150 yards at the most, but more like 100 yards I would say. Not far and we have trees arching over the sidewalk to help protect against sun and rain.
On a much happier note, I adopted myself a beautiful fish named Bill. He is a blue betta, with a dark blue body, and lighter blue fins. He also has a maroon streak through one of his tails that you can see in the proper lighting. He is soooooooooo pretty. I got him a big bowl so that he would have lots of space and be happy (it is like, a gallon and a half which is big for bettas, though the lady tried to sell me a HUGE goldfish bowl that he would have been lost in!) He has really pretty green gravel that goes well with his coloring, and I am so happy to have a pet again! There was a betta there that we decided was definitely a Floyd, he was HUGE and had gorgeous red finsthat fanned out amazingly when he swam, but I wasn't looking for a Floyd. i was looking for a Bill. I am like a proud mother right now. I can't wait to see what kind of personality Bill has and all that. And before you make fun of me for saying a fish has personality, everyone who came in the Pet House this summer to replace a betta that they had had for a few years talked about their personalities. So I am excited to find out Bill's.
