Ugaritic

Inspired by lovelies, I started a course on the Ugaritic language today. The language was spoken in the 12th century BC in the city of Ugarit, on the Mediterranean coast of northern Syria. I'm really looking forward to reading the Ugarit texts in the original language, because they are connected to one of my main areas of interest, the birth of Jewish monotheism, and the influences of the surrounding polytheistic religions.

The course has been going on for a few months already, but I came in at a convenient time, as next time we start reading the Ba'al cycle. I really want to read the book The Origins of Biblical Monotheism: Israel's Polytheistic Background and the Ugaritic Texts by Mark S. Smith but I have too much to read!

Today I borrowed two books from the library:
Girls Rock!: Fifty Years of Women Making Music
Women and Popular Music: Sexuality, Identity and Subjectivity
