inability to turn down a dare

I think probably most of you have seen the Huston Street interview on MLB.com, which is causing me no end of havoc, as Zito buying him a guitar sends my mind in one particular direction, and Harden and Street staying up till four in the morning to watch 'Braveheart,' for the love of Venezuelan back-up second basemen, sends it in another direction ( Read more... )

**laughs** Yeah. I guess Z was like "if I can't pry him from Harden with weed, I'll try a guitar. He's from Texas, right? IT'S FOOLPROOF." **cackles maniacally**

or something. Also, Z loans him movies that he has to read. Heh.

And this story? Damn you, dude. I saw Eric's name and I remembered your comment in Alex's LJ about maybe trying not to torture him sometime, and I thought this was it! You're like...Lucy, with the ball, and I'm constantly trying to kick it, like a dumbass, and falling on my face ^_~

Stylistically, this was a tough read (at least it was at 7:30 in the morning) but I like how it works with Chavvy's state of mind. Both terribly disjointed and yet singularly focused in a weirdly neat T.S. Eliot Waste Land kind of way.

I especially liked:

my friend said, after seeing the wonderfulamazing speedo picture (which short-circuited my BRAIN), 'the a's will beat the catholic out of him,' and i was all, 'no, zito's gonna smoke the catholic out of him,' and then we had this whole thing about catholicism like a mean possum living under the house. which wasn't blasphemous at all.

i know, man, i know. happy eric chavez--it WILL happen. although, it'll probably be him, like, happy with his wife, which is nice and all, but not really so typical.

glad you liked the story despite its admitted strangeness.

you saw the speedo, eh? query: do we know when that was taken? because rememeber the rookie hazing, and the school girl uniform of surpassing awesome, didn't he look considerably more built? like, speedo pic is him all slender and cool (those white sunglasses somehow make the whole thing for me), but in the school girl getup, much more muscle on the boy.

ah, i enjoy this line of thought, greatly.

zito pulled out of the wbc. should i still buy tickets?

i can't really think of anything constructive or critical to say. this read to me like a poetry/prose piece. i liked it. sounds like something that should be read out loud.

i wrote for a very long time in the opinion that stuff should sound good out loud. it's a fine standard, i think.
