1. I rushed the end of ‘The Rest of Your Life,’ and it shows.

Heh, were your ears burning? Since she put up the soundtrack, offspeed and I have been kinda talking about it. (I was trying to figure out why I was so emotional about the end.) I think I'd welcome a sequel that settled things with more of a sense of finality, but I'll leave the badgering for that to Alex :-P

4. The How-To series bugs me. Pretty much everything I wrote early on (with a few exceptions) bugs me.

I think that's understandable, because from reading your stuff, you've improved muchly since those writings. Like, I know it bugs me whenever I see someone on my flist using one of the my early icons. All I can see is everything I did wrong with it. The cropping could have been better, the text isn't properly placed, the brush use should have been more subtle... I have to admit, the How-To series is one of I think two stories of yours that I read but didn't comment on (at least I don't think I did), because while I was intrigued by the premise, I wasn't crazy ( ... )

HEY, at least I didn't blame you for making me think the story was called Undercurrents :-P **coughs** (though really, I can't blame you for that, because I've got eyes, haven't I? I should probably be able to, you know, READ, at this point).

was that supposed to be punny?

Your Honor, may I approach the witness? Ms. Speed, do you recognize this comment? I suppose you expect this court to believe that one of your many typewriting monkeys snuck onto your computer and left this in your name? Or perhaps, some friend of yours, who has slowly driving you insane for months, perhaps you expect us to believe this friend of yours went around posting things under your Eljay handle in some whacked attempt to get back at you for your evil plan to ostracize her completely? You fool no one, Ms. Speed. Admit your guilt, and throw yourself on God's mercy.

(We're being awfully spammy in the comments to someone else's post. We really are assholes. Does LJ still email this stuff to Beck?)

i do get emails, because people comment on stuff that's way old, but no worries. i appreciate amusing dialogue and hypothetical court cases.

the thing about 'the rest of your life' was that i knew what the ending would be, from way early on, but by the time i actually got to writing it, i'd been living with the story in my head for two months, writing it every night, planning it out every day, and it was like in september when the marathon becomes a sprint. and i was just all, IT'S ALMOST DONE, and didn't give the last scene the time and care it deserved.

luckily, the epilogue was written weeks before, and that was exactly how i wanted it to be. redemption.

and no, there will be no sequel. no no no.

yeah, everything you said is pretty much what i think about the improvement since the early days. just keeping doing it until you get good at it, i guess.

i've also been idly considering doing, like, remixes of older stories, now that i can do justice to the ideas behind them. good idea, bad execution needs to be less of a theme.

sorkin, darling sorkin. so snarky. so self-impressed. how could i not be infatuated?
