Gracie :(

The vet just called to let me know that it's bad news. My poor Gracie has a very rare congenital skin disease that is incurable. She said that we can try a new shampoo and putting her on a strict schedule of at least two baths a week, but that's just to ensure that Gracie isn't spreading so much of her dandruff around. We'll also have to shave her ( Read more... )

It might help, you never know. It wouldn't hurt for sure. I will warn you though that if you ask your regular vet about raw food they don't really support it. They don't know much about it since all their training was sponsored by the pet food companies and they get a cut of all the pet food they sell in their office.

Raw food is essentially raw meat, vegetables and fruit. It's also called the BARF (Bones and Raw Food) diet. If you search BARF diet online tons and tons of sites will come up. Our dogs eat Mountain Dog Food (www.mountaindogfood.com). After we did some research we were horrified with all the additives and everything else that was in dog food so we switched both dogs over. It may not help, but I would at least try it. It's not going to hurt her and it may really improve things. I'd give her at least a month on it before you decide it's not working though. It took our dogs about a month each to completely adjust, we switched them over cold turkey though. One morning I fed them kibble and that night they got raw chicken.

They also sometimes go through a bit of a detox phase with diarrhea etc. Gambit went through that and currently Dawson has a rash on his chin which the vet says is the toxins from his previous pet food flushing themselves out.

I probably sound crazy and I might not believe it myself if Gambit's life literally hadn't been saved by switching him. We will never feed an animal kibble again.

Definitely let me know if you have any other questions. Also, I'd look around for a holistic vet. You could always just call them and see if they've treated it before.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I really hope things work out for you!
