From Drought To Flood

From drought to flood. Actually applicable to various things.

The proposed day of Tim Burton movie watching expresses the more literal version. On the 6th March, there was a spectacular hail and down pour of rain storm that made a brief but destructive visit to Melbourne. It may have only lasted 30 minutes, but there was flash flooding and hailstones ranging from marble to golf ball size. YouTube has a bunch of footage up you can see for yourself. Look up "Melbourne hail storm" and you'll see the fun. As a result, the cinema was closed. Rain pouring through the vents, into the electrical system and creating a lovely water feature in front of the screen, which made things a little problematic. The flooding in the mall part to get to the cinema wasn't much help either. Cars parked along the street looked like they were attempting a new camouflage look, with leaves stuck to them everywhere. It looked like the trees had thrown a huge tantrum and waved about their branches in protest, dispersing leaves everywhere. I scored a new waterfall in my bedroom. Thankfully I got to it quickly and the landlord agreed to fix it just as fast. Never dull in this city.

The other flood was much more pleasant. In a span of only a few days I was Miss Popular. I was inundated with job calls. I did a two day face-to-face interview marathon, with several call backs and three offers. I tallied up the pros and cons and have agreed to start at a lower paying position this week.

So, I have full time employment again! I chose the lesser paying one because it is in the industry I have been desperate to break into. That's right, it is in entertainment! Distribution of movies actually. It is also just 5 mins drive down the road as well - 10 mins in full on peak traffic. More sleep in time! The job is pretty varied, but sounds relatively chilled out.

The higher paying one was going to be extremely busy and stress orientated, but that wasn't why I turned it down. It was in the city, so crammed public transport commute and a bit of walking involved. The real deal breaker was the 7.30am start. Those who know me know that I am so not a morning person. I don't really resemble human status until 10am with several coffees already guzzled. 9am starting jobs are fine, because you can manage the non-thinking chores for the first hour. Having the inability to sleep earlier than 1am and sometimes 3am, doesn't sound like a good plan when you have to be out the door at 6.30am and have all your wits about you. Pass!

I also have my event nights coming up, which will run quite late.

So hooray for finally getting a job in the medium I want.
