birthday month

May is a month of many birthdays for my friends…today I went to a restaurant + bar for my friend and roommate's birthday. E, my other roommate, was also there, along with a mutual friend and a girl I knew from creative writing class. But other than that, the other 3 girls were strangers to me. But it was good! We got there when it was relatively low key and the place was mostly empty with a table of strange biker/brony/furry group…but things were good, we ordered cocktails and got our food and it was pretty tasty.

Things started picking up when one of my roommate's friends went up to the live musician and had him play "happy birthday" so that the entire place knew it was someone's birthday and we were clapping and generally living it up and their manager came up to us to tell us that they had a room for us and a bottle of champagne on the house for us because it was J's birthday. This was all for karaoke downstairs, which we had not originally planned to partake in. This was very exciting. Afterwards, we decided on another round of cocktails, after which the musician came up to our table and bought my roommate a shot. Then we got free dessert!! This place was literally amazing. I have never experienced such good service on someone's birthday. I'm happy she could experience that.

We went downstairs as I was struggling to down my second drink of very intense whiskey variety. My roommate and I sang for the karaoke, which was an open area space instead of individual rooms…it was very communal. The champagne was okay. The energy fluctuated but just like the bar restaurant, the place filled up slowly but surely. We came home after spending like…4 hours at this place and ate cake and drank some wine and I sat around feeling very tired and worn out after having been on and drinking and active socially (relatively) for four hours…they were playing Taboo very enthusiastically but I was just not feeling the vibe and was secretly glad that they petered off and went home after a while.

Despite feeling tired, I went to Clarkes with another part of my social circle and I didn't eat anything or say much but I felt like I rejuvenated somewhat.

It's thrilling to have a large diversity of friends.
