At work, we've reached that lovely time of the year where all my assessments are done and now I just have to write up my final reports. I have seven to do, which is not all that bad considering one of my colleagues had 16. But still, sitting at a computer typing up reports for several days in a row is a bit boring and kind of turns my brain to mush. I got two reports completed and about 75% of a third this week, so I've only got four and a quarter to write still. Hopefully I'll be a little more energized and ready to work on Monday. I ended up taking half a sick day yesterday because I had a headache all day and just couldn't face the prospect of sitting and staring at a computer screen the whole afternoon. It was probably a good decision, because I went and got myself a nice lunch, ran a couple errands, rested a bit when I got home, and generally felt better/happier than I would have if I'd stayed the rest of the day and tried to make myself work.
Besides the headache and the blah of report writing, there have actually been a bunch of things to make me happy lately. Thursday was knitting group, and seriously, I am so glad that Kim told me about it. I have a great time when I'm there and all of the other girls are really awesome people. I feel like I fit in there and like I can easily make friends with this group of people, and that's something that has definitely not been easy for me to find since I moved up here, so I'm grateful for it. Plus it's keeping me inspired to work on my knitting (and crocheting now!) and to keep learning and trying new things. The girls told me about this frozen yogurt place that sounds exactly like
Twist in Princeton, which is definitely one of my Jersey food places that I miss a bunch, so I'm hoping we can go to the place up here next week! Speaking of good food, I mentioned that I got a good lunch yesterday - I went to
Williams Fresh Cafe in Brampton, and omg, so pleased with everything. It's kind of like if Panera and The Cheesecake Factory got together and had a Canadian baby, haha. They had a ton of delicious-sounding things on their menu, including crepes, and a large dessert case filled with different types of cheesecake. I ended up getting the strawberry and feta salad, which was soooooo good. Definitely want to go back there and try more of their menu.
Last night, after resting a bit to recover from the headache, and after missing two buses (grr!), I made my way downtown to meet up with Kim and Lindsay for the APW book club. Yeah, we're a small group; the most people we've had at a meeting was 4. :p But we went to
The Rebel House, where I got cider on draft(!!) and delicious mac and cheese, and I had a really nice time chatting with the two of them. We hardly talked about the book at all, because Lindsay hadn't finished it and neither Kim nor I really liked it all that much, but we had some good conversation and it was definitely a nice night. I really enjoy and appreciate these opportunities to go out and be social with other people, especially when they were so hard to come by for so long in the beginning. I just feel like I'm finally developing more of my own social network up here, and it feels really good to finally have that.
This afternoon we're going to the dentist, which is not thrilling, but a necessary evil, and at least I have benefits that cover it. Right now I am enjoying being lazy on the computer while listening to the rain and occasional thunder. And I'm also pretty excited because tomorrow I made appointments for a deep tissue massage (which my benefits will also cover, because Canada is amazing!), and a hair cut! Can't wait! So yeah, life is pretty good right now. I feel very lucky for all the good things I have in my life, and especially for the people in it. I definitely don't have much to complain about right now. :) Lots of love to all of you and enjoy your weekends!
