just close your eyes dear

Thursday while I was in my shower I suddenly got really dizzy and lost all balance. I felt like I was going to fall over, and every time I moved I thought I was going to vomit. Extremely not pleasant and frightening, so I called out sick from work. Went back to sleep, and when I woke up two hours later, I was pretty much fine, except for some residual pressure in my ears, which I chalked up to the cold I've had.

Last night, I had the dizzy/spinning sensation again, but since I was about to go to bed, I just went to sleep and was fine when I woke up. However, it happened again this morning while I was at work, this time making me slightly nauseous again, so I went to the nurse and laid down for awhile till I was able to get up and go back to work. As this was the third time in less than a week that something like this has happened I figured it was time for a trip to the doctor. Janet recommended a walk in clinic right around the corner from work that also takes our insurance, so I stopped by this afternoon.

Diagnosis: labyrinthitis, or inflammation of the inner ear. The doc gave me a prescription for steroids to reduce the inflammation, and a dramamine-like substance to take whenever I start getting dizzy again. If it doesn't clear up in a week, I have to go see an ear, nose and throat doc.

Okay, fine. That's all well and good; I'll take my meds, hope for the best. But um, really? If I have something called labyrinthitis, I really feel that David Bowie and/or his crotch need to be involved in some way. I mean, come on!

In other news, I rediscovered the shoebox full of cassette tapes that I have, for some unknown reason, carried with me every time I've moved, even though I have not listened to any of this music for years. There are some real gems in this box, let me tell you.

-Phil Collins . . . Hits
-Billy Joel - 2000 Years The Millennium Concert (2 tapes!)
-Grease soundtrack
-Tarzan soundtrack
-Disney's Greatest Pop Hits - A Decade of Radio Singles
-The Very Best of Andrew Lloyd Weber - The Broadway Collection
-Celine Dion - Falling into You
-Boyz II Men - Evolution
-Erasure - Pop! The First 20 hits
-Savage Garden (self-titled)
-Les Miserables Original London Cast Album
-The Little Mermaid soundtrack
-Beauty and the Beast soundtrack

This is not including the five separate mixed tapes that Kira and I made by recording songs off the radio. It is a very special box of awesome, that is for sure.

(I'm getting rid of this box, btw. If any of you happen to still have a tape deck and want some or all of these lovely cassettes, I'll be happy to send them your way.)
