Lesson Learned Today:

Even though Emma loves mixing a few drops of red and blue food colouring together to make purple, purple icing does not look so good on a chocolate cake. It still tastes good because I made homemade vanilla icing, but it looks really gross. Its hard to make purple icing that is really purple without using too much food clouring, so its kind of a greyish light purple. Oh well. Its devil's food chocolate cake. That I do make from a box. It turns out better than the recipes for chocolate cake from scratch I've tried over the years and it is so much easier. I don't do the light version of it - I go for the milk, oil and 3 eggs. Its chocolate cake - who wants low calorie, low fat chocolate cake? Its not like we eat t every day. I haven't made one since Emma's birthday in September. This is her special dessert for Daddy. She said that she wanted to make cake because it was nobody's birthday. That was cute.

Right now she's playing with her ponies and using different voices for each one. The brown pony is saving the white pony from the crocodile lake. She has an amazing imagination. Sometimes I just sit on the stairs and watch her play without her knowing that I'm there. I'm so glad that she is happy playing by herself for awhile. Some kids need constant attention. But...when she wants something or wants attention, she wants it NOW! We taught her to say, "excuse me," but she is already abusing it. She things that when she says it, because she remembered to say it, we have to switch focus to her immediately.

That cake smells so good I don't know if I can wait for James to get home, but I have to set a good example...and Emma put a big D for Daddy on it with chocolate chips.
