Avland - Create a Villain
My entry for an avland challenge wherein I had to create a new villain.
Character profile/summary/origin story
Subject I.D. # 3166
Name: Makenzie Mako
Gender: Female
Age: Approx. 26
Aliases: Mack, Mack the Knife, Mack the Shark
Powers:
- Limited ability to control water - similar to ‘water bending.’
- Shark-like teeth and aggression. Has been known to consume flesh ripped off after a bite.
- Superhuman swimming skills - has rudimentary gills and so is able to breathe under water for several hours, legs turn into a shark-like tail when swimming, increasing speed and agility in the water.
- Able to track the scent of blood, especially in water.
- Skilled knife fighter.
Appearance:
Hair: Bald (but would be black if it grew)
Eyes: Dark brown (They turn completely black when in a high adrenaline state, such as when attacking)
Build: Slim, athletic, and streamlined.
Height: 5’ 7”
Ethnicity: Japanese/Australian
Skin Colour: Black on her back, fading to a light grey on her stomach. Note: skin has a rough, slightly scaly texture
Background:
Little is known about how Mako got her powers. She was found by SHEILD agents swimming and attacking people in the Southern Ocean off the coast of South Australia. Mako was determined a dangerous individual and detained. Her attacks were covered up as “shark attacks.”
In the beginning, Mako was extremely reluctant to communicate with agents, so much so that there was doubt that she could communicate at all. Agents tried a wide variety of methods to communicate with her, and eventually is was discovered that she is highly motivated by food. After eating, and being promised more food as a reward, Mako told her story.
Mako claims to have very few memories of her life before the events that mutated her body and mind. She remembers being held in an underground facility in Japan. She had been subjected to many experiments to mutate her body into the shark-like form it now is. She suspects that it was an attempt by a rebel group of Japanese scientists to replicate their own super soldier formula. The experiments ended when a scientist slipped and fell into her water tank and she mauled him. The scientists were going to euthanize her, but the lab was raided by police. In the chaos, Mako escaped and made it to the sea, where she swam to Australia.
Mako has confessed a love of violence, eating human flesh, and several other psychopathic tendencies. She remains in a SHIELD facility for observation and experimentation, and also for the safety of the public. If released into the world, Mako would pose a serious danger to society.

Mack had few guilty pleasures and many pleasures she felt no guilt about whatsoever. She loved to eat, she loved to swim, she loved to hunt and she loved to kill. The hunt and the kill and the meat… it was life. In the overly-dominate predator part of her brain, it was all-important.
Her more human side liked horror movies. Slasher films. Attack of the 100-foot-whatever. They got her excited and made her want to hunt.
She stalked along the coast, under the water. She was a dark streak. She was the hunter. She was the shadow in the water full of teeth and sharp edges and hunger. She detected a scent - the red iron tang of blood. She picked up speed, the scent leading her out into deeper water.
There was a ship. On the deck of the ship was a battle. A body had been thrown over-board. It floated, bleeding in the water. Mack circled the body once, twice, looking for movement. There. A twitch, a splash, and now the man was trying to swim back towards the boat. He had a wound in his leg and oh… oh, the blood.
Mack felt her eyes darken. She burst forwards, aiming for a leg. She attacked with teeth and knife, ripping into flesh. The man screamed, kicking, thrashing, but no one came to his aid. The battle up on deck must have been all-consuming.
By the time Mack was done and full and more importantly, gone, the man was dead. He was missing a leg.
His body was recovered before too many other fish could eat what was left.
The SHIELD doctor preforming the autopsy noticed the unusual marks in his wounds - caused by shark-like teeth, yes, but also a bladed weapon that had not been used in the battle on-deck. He knew of an old SHIELD file that mentioned a dangerous experimental mutant creature. This matched her signature style.
With hands that shook only a little, he called the director.
