100 Nostalgic Things From The 90's Challenge - #1: Blue (Da Ba Bee)

Jul 03, 2012 15:09

So I've decided to do this:

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

I've spent a long time trying to come up with the category for which 100 things I should blog about. In the end, I decided that I might do several lists because I couldn't pick just one. The first list I will do will be my personal 100 Nostalgic Things From The 90's in no perticular order.

For some context; I moved to Australia when I was 14/15, so this list will be about favourite shows, movies, books, music, foods and whatever else from before then in Canada. Many people who also grew up in the 90's will relate to some things on my list, but some of my Australian friends might not get the Canadian references. Also, for one reason or another, I missed out on a lot of great 90's stuff. I only got into them when I was a teenager or adult. (This includes things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Batman: The Animated Series.) I never watched a lot of Simpsons, so this will be the only time that show will be mentioned.

Entry number one is a song from the late 90's. I listened to it a lot back then, and it's on my iPod to this day, purely for the nostalgia factor.

Yo, listen up.

Here's a story

about a little guy that lives in a blue world,

and all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue

like him,

inside and outside.

Blue his house,

with a blue little window and a blue Corvette

and everything is blue for him and himself and everybody around

'cos he ain't got nobody to listen...

Eiffel 65. I doubt I've ever heard or paid attention to any other sing of theirs. Blue (Da ba Dee), on the other hand, was the song everyone knew back when I was in grade 6. I remember we had debate about what the lyrics really were. I swore up and down that "if I were green, I would die" was in there somewhere (Try it. It fits with the "da ba dee, daba da") I also heard debate about what this song is really about. It could be about nothing, or it could be about someone with very deep depression. Either way, it's damn catchy and, like it or not, it's an earworm.
