MORTAL LIABILITY chapter # 2
Summary: *5 months later* Bella POV. Just to clear this up, the previous chapter was during New Moon. Bella and Edward find that a visitor is staying at the Cullen mansion, and they get to meet her.
Chapter 02
*5 months later*
Bella POV
I took a bite of my lunch “where is Alice today?” I asked “She went hunting with Jasper and Rosalie” Edward replied “Do you mind if we go to my house after school? Carlisle says he has some news for everyone” he continued still staring into my eyes. I just nodded my mouth full of food. He reached over and brushed the back side of his hand down my jaw line. My skin tingled under his cold skin. I still wasn’t used to this, my heart sped faster. He smiled gently, still holding my gaze in his. Then he went to grab my hand instead. I looked down at the table and took another bite of food.
I looked past Edward and noticed a young girl maybe grade 9 or possibly 10. She was staring at us but she quickly looked away. Well most people stared at me and Edward. But what caught my attention was that she sat all alone on the floor in the corner of the room. She had long black hair; her hair draped over the most part of the left side of her face. She wore cargo pants with a green t-shirt with a white sweater. Edward saw me staring and sensed my confusion. He turned following my gaze “What is she thinking” I suddenly blurted out without thought, I looked at his face he was frowning and his topaz eyes were confused “Nothing” he answered my question
“What, you can’t?” I continued hoping to get more information than that
“I can, just nothing important” he still stared with his confused look. The girl turned her head slightly and looked back at us, she quickly turned again “We should go” he said. I looked at the clock on the wall, we still had 20 minutes. He stood up; I followed him out the door. Was he hiding something from me? I decided not to talk about it until we left school.

“What was that about?” I asked, we were in the Volvo know
“What?” he replied
“At lunch, with that girl” I said
“Nothing” he said quickly
“Stop that! You’re hiding something” I said a bit paranoid
“What makes you say that?” he said, his topaz eyes piercing into mine
“Just tell me Edward!” I argued, he rolled his eyes and sighed “fine” he gave up, I smiled in his defeat “She just has some funny thoughts, and she looked vaguely familiar” he said
“Oh” I said. We pulled up in his driveway. In a flash he was over on my side opening my door. He reached in a picked me up. “You know I can walk” I sighed. I didn’t bother to struggle anymore. “To bad” he smiled my favorite crooked smile. My mind fell blank for a moment as I stared at his gorgeous face. I smiled a bit in return. “You might trip” he continued still smiling. “At least let me down at the door” I asked. He sighed.
Luckily he did let me down and the front door. He set me down gently then wrapped his arms around me. He froze, he raised his head and seemed, he frowned then looked at the closed door before us. His grip tightened as we entered.
Edward seemed surprised when he saw who was sitting on the couch next to his piano. I was surprised as well. I didn’t know who she was but I had a feeling Edward did. She was a tall slender woman. Her skin was pale, almost white and her eyes were a deep burgundy. She had long dark brown hair. She was gorgeous-stunning. I guessed in her late twenties or early thirties. One thing was for sure, she was a vampire.
She glanced at us then smiled. She stood. Then began her way slowly towards us. Edward held me closer. “Hello!” she greeted happily.
'So pleased to meet you Bella, finally. My name is Ellen’ she smiled. I frowned, how was she telling me this? Her mouth wasn’t moving! “Uh, hello” I said aloud, she laughed but her mouth didn’t budge, it was like I was reading her mind. Was I? ‘Yes you are reading my mind Bella’ I heard her giggle. The confusion struck me harder. I glanced up at Edward. He was frowning. “So nice to see you again Edward! It’s been a while hasn’t it!” she spoke aloud. “Yes, yes it has Ellen” he mumbled, he held me tightly to his side “Where is Carlisle?” he spoke with authority “Ah, right! He is just in the other room with…oh right! He’s should be done soon” she was suddenly gone.
Edward led me to sit with him on the couch. “How do you know her? How did she-”
“We met just after I was changed, she can…let people read her mind. But at the same time she can read yours. But she can only read someone’s mind if she is letting someone read hers” he said cutting me off. Almost all my questions were answered there. “She has red eyes…” I trailed off “isn’t that bad?” I asked him “Yes, it can be. That doesn’t mean she will go on a killing rampage” he said blankly, he began rubbing my shoulder.
Ellen walked back into the room, followed by Carlisle and Alice. Then another person walked behind the crowd. She had long black that covered the left side of her face. She lifted her head. It was the girl from the cafeteria this after noon. She looked at Edward and I, and smiled. Alice came to sit next to me. “Hey Bella” she chirped. “Hey” I smiled. Carlisle sat in an armchair. Ellen and the stranger sat in the other couch. “I am making this clear that we have a couple visitors staying with us” Carlisle smiled. “Alice were did Jasper and Emmet go?” Carlisle sighed. Alice shrugged. “Esme has been informed of this and she took Rosalie shopping for…the stuff” Carlisle said. I looked at the younger girl. She had a pretty face, and a nice smile. She was looking at her hands.
“This is Sonia” Ellen introduced her, she looked up and her eyes scanned the room. Ellen hit the back of her head. “Hey!” Sonia turned to look at Ellen. I glanced at Carlisle, his eyes looked concerned. “Hi” she said to the rest of the room. She inched away from Ellen.
Sonia smiled at me. I smiled a bit in return. Why did she cover her face? The question popped up randomly. “I would like to speak privately please, with Edward” Carlisle asked standing up. Ellen stood as well and followed them out of the room. I was left alone with the young girl and Alice.

Bella POV
