MORTAL LIABILITY Chapter #1

Chapter 01
A woman collapsed on the floor, the shock of the information she learned over powered the strength in her legs to hold her up. The man already knew what was happening, but he stayed calm and thought over the situation. “We have to get out of here! There coming!” the woman yelled “Lock all the doors” the man said in a calm voice” that won’t stop them!” the woman said angrily into his face
“Just do it” he assured her.
She ran to the back window pausing to peek into the vast wilderness behind them. Then she froze, she turned around slowly, her eyes wide with shock and horror and her lower lip trembled. “What’s wrong?” the man asked a little uneasy
“Sonia will be home from school soon...” she said in a dry dead voice, “We have to get her away from here,” she continued. Tears began dwelling in her eyes. The man sat down and but his head between his hands. The woman still stood there; the tears drained her eyes only to refill again. She sat on the floor hanging her head. “Ellen,” The man mumbled.
“What?” the woman asked still weeping
“Ellen” he repeated, louder
“Are you sure she’s safe?” she said raising her head
“She’s our only hope, plus she’s family,” he responded picking up the phone on the table. The woman nodded standing up, and returned to the window. “Ellen? We need you here, yes, yes, come as soon as possible please”, he sounded desperate. Then he hung up.
The woman ran from the window, “there’re here,” she whispered. The man grabbed her and ran into the back corner; The man sat in front of the woman protectively. But it will soon be no use. A massive bang on the door made them jump, also knocking over the door. There was silence, they looked at each other and back at the open space in front of them. Then one by one the enormous hairy figures pounced through the doorway. The woman screamed.

Sonia POV:

‘Walking back home’ I thought to myself, how stupid, what is this my 6th ‘home’?! Wait more, much more than that. I started on the small path into the wood that led me to my small cottage/house. It’s been like this since I was 5 years old. We move one place, then it’s not safe in about 2-3 months and we move again. My house was in sight now.

I watched my feet as I walked, thinking of all the people I met who I never really got to talk to though they were in my own class. I never had any real ‘friends’ after a while I just stopped trying. I remembered when I was stoned when I was 6, 4 kids from my class followed me home and through stones at my head. They almost knocked my unconscious. A wave of anger swept through me.

But it I forgot every thing when I saw the door of my house knocked down. I began running. My mind searched for a ‘reasonable’ explanation for this, but I knew what had happened. I ignored the little voice in the back of my head that told me to do what my parents had told me to do if something like this happened. When I reached the doorway I found my parents sprawled across the floor, blood every where. I tried to move but my legs were paralyzed, it was a snap from outside that made me run. I ran out the door, terrified of what would be waiting for me.

As I stepped on the porch I was hit from behind and hurled over the wooden bar around the porch and into a tree. I fell winded from the force of the tree to my stomach. I stood turned and a large paw slashed me across the face, I shrieked in pain as I through my hands to my bloody cheek. I turned to run away, but the monster dug his claws in to my right shoulder blade and ripped down to my torso. The pain from my face faded in seconds. I fell screaming in pain to terrified for tears, the pain was unbearable ‘I’m going to die’ I thought to myself still shrieking as the animal rolled me onto my back. I wanted to die. The animal began pressing down on my chest, I grabbed the paw trying to force it off of me but it was to strong and soon enough I couldn’t breathe and I gave up.

The sudden sensation of the weight being jerked off of me revived me. A pair of icy white hands grabbed me the awful pain in my back was worse know as I was picked up and the ice was put under my back. I screamed as it stung my wound. What ever it was that was holding me began running, extremely fast…unnaturally fast. My vision began blurring, and I was getting dizzy, “Stay awake,” an extremely beautiful voice said, “You must stay awake,” she continued. Then she stopped and gently rested me on the ground, when my back hit the ground I yelped and groaned. I couldn’t find the rest of my voice to scream. I still couldn’t see properly. But I tried to see her face. She began talking but not to me… a cell phone? But I couldn’t hear what she was saying. I felt the ground disappear beneath me. And the familiar coldness returned. The pain dulled a bit more against the ice. Know I could see her face clearly, she was beautiful. She had long brown hair, very pale almost white skin and golden eyes. “I have some explaining to do don’t I,” she said smiling an extremely beautiful smile, it startled me. “We should get going,” she said. I didn’t answer, I got dizzier and every sound I heard stretched into hums. I blacked out.

I woke up in a small pale blue room. I heard that familiar beautiful voice of that woman from the forest. “It’s been a while, how’s Edward,” she asked, to who? Me? “Not good at all really,” a new men’s voice said it was silent from a moment “, But enough of that, what are you going to do know? With the girl I mean,” The man said “Hide her I guess” She said “You could stay with my family if you want” the man suggested “Possibly, but not know” she answered. I opened my eyes, they were both beautiful. The man had pale skin and honey eyes but he had blonde hair “She’s awake” he stated. I tried sitting up but my back held me back, I fell back into the bed “please don’t sit, you’ll stretch your stitches” he said, I remembered why it hurt, my back stung more. I squeezed my eyes shut. “Here I should introduce myself” the lady said and I opened my eyes again. She smiled, I was stunned my it’s sudden beauty “I am Ellen, I know your parents” she introduced “This is Dr.Cullen” she pointed at the man beside her. He smiled at me too. But I didn’t know any vampires! Why didn’t my mother tell me about this ‘Ellen’? She saw my confusion “I’ll explain later” she said, I nodded. “Good” I thought to myself. And slowly I remembered what had previously happened “Mom? Where are they?” I said, she hung her head, I shook my head “They are gone” she said solemnly, tears began dwelling in my eyes and they streamed down my face. I tried to hold them back but I couldn’t “She needs to rest” Dr. Cullen suggested, and they left me alone as my life seemed to slip away, through my fingers.
