It's the reluctant part that makes me go "aww you're sixteen and never got laid, I might decide to help you with that" as a response to that pick up line. It's not bad, so much as it is earnest in entirely the wrong way.

See whereas I think anyone using that line is probably being so ridiculously over-the-top on purpose. And that's sort of charming. That you would think up something like that and say it even knowing how utterly terribly beyond the pale it is.

I imagine anyone using it would have been laughing, and actually reaching out to thread their fingers through yours. I imagine a slight curve of the lip and laughter-tinged voice idk idk (flails hands at you)

Unless it was someone I knew before this attempt at a pickup, I think the handholding would make me laugh possibly enough to actually allow it. Which is saying something, being a girl who has odd concepts of being touched by strangers, but I understand what you mean. It's ridiculous and charming because to even say it is admitting you know it's ridiculous without being skeevy like so many pickup lines are.
