The end of breastfeeding Tyler

When I was pregnant with Tyler, I didn't really know what my goals were as far as breastfeeding. I've become much more educated about it since Tyler was born. I knew I wanted to try, I wanted to breastfeed Tyler. We had a rocky start. My milk was slow to come in, which wasn't a problem for us. But at about day 6 when my milk came in, my ( Read more... )

Oh god, the rollercoaster that is breastfeeding.

I cried the last couple of times Alastair breastfed, but then it was painful too so a part of me was glad (It was May of 2011 and I was three months pregnant) Alastair was 22 months, but I am going to claim that he was 2 :)

You know what a horrible start Alastair and I had and I want women to know how hard it is, but really doable and eventually very rewarding. I was so angry at that time because all mothers ever spoke about was how great and beautiful it was, but I wasn't seeing any of the beauty. I only had cracked nipples, pain, struggles and guilt all the while balling my eyes out and experiencing some pretty intense PPD. Due to women glowing about breastfeeding, I felt like such a major failure.

I am very happy to say that with Joaquim, it has been much easier. He came out, lached and sucked for almost an hour. He is an expert at drawing my nipples out. He's the complete opposite of how Alastair was at the beginning. And breastfeeding was my biggest fear with this second pregnancy. Although he drove me batty with his cluster feeding the first two weeks of his life. There were nights were I was awake from 2-6, just nursing him, burping him, him dozing for ten mins. until he realized there was no nipple in his mouth and it went on like that for hours and hours - guess that's why the 9'5 at birth has grown into 12'3 at 6 weeks.

It's nice to read an update from you!

Must go to sleep as I never know when I am going to get it lately.
