December was a good but busy month. Chris is working the road which means his days are longer but he has more days off. This month instead of working days he'll be working mids the next few weeks. That isn't great since he'll basically work and sleep. I need to get the house pulled together today while he is around and can manage Ty.
The house got decorated, I managed to mail out all 40 of my Christmas cards to family and friends, and gifts were bought and mailed. We seemed to have deliveries all month with gifts for Tyler and us. Tyler got lots of great toys, clothes, and shoes for Christmas. I got some lovely gifts too. My parents gave me a Target GC towards my breast pump and Chris' parents did the same. Only now I want a pump that isn't sold at Target so the GCs will go to Tyler's convertible car seat. I can't believe he is about 2 pounds away from outgrowing his infant seat.
We spent Christmas in Canada. They didn't have nearly as much snow as we did since theirs had melted since the last storm. We left mountains of it behind to drive through the night. The drive went so fast and Ty slept until we were almost at my parent's house. I think that's the way we need to travel from now on.
Oh wow, I started this on Saturday! Where does the time go?
I've been spending the past few days ignoring the mess of my house and researching convertible car seats and breast pumps. So much to think about! We'll need two seats. A really comfy wizz-bang seat for my car since Ty is in it a lot and we use it for very long trips, and a more cheaper basic one for Chris' car since we use his car more for short errand type trips around town. The one I want for my car is not available yet at Target. Hopefully they get it soon since Babies R Crack already has it in stock. Target has the older discontinued one but they expect it to be available soon. If Ty hits the magic 22 pound mark I can pick up the one for Chris' car and use it temporarily in my car.
Pump - I've placed my order for an Ameda Purely Yours pump. Right now my production is just covering Ty's basic feeding needs. I'll have to hit the mommy tea hard and get pumping to re-stock my freezer supply plus have milk on hand for sippy cups and oatmeal.
Of course research is never easy since there really isn't a place in the office/guest room for Ty to play and he is pretty needy these days. He has a cold right now, lots of snotty mucus and fussiness. It interferes with his nursing and I'm concerned about him staying hydrated so I gave him a sippy cup with water today. He had fun playing with it and since it was his first real attempt at a sippy he ended up with more water on him than in him. But he had fun!
Ok, so Christmas was great. Had an amazing time at my brother's place visiting his family on Christmas Eve. I can't remember my SIL ever being so laid back and all of us having such stress-free fun. Joy! They gave us a pencil reproduction of Ty's newborn picture done by my SIL's niece. It is amazingly accurate, I'll post a pic when I get it hung.
I also got to see my friends, coffee with my uni. house-mate and Boxing Day brunch at my parents' house with the NF gals. Life really is changing - 2 of 3 hubbies were present as well as the two babies and a pregnant belly (not me!). So much for the days of us getting s*** faced and going out dancing and flirting with random guys. *sniff* memories... We had a great meal and a fun time catching up and chatting. The babies (Tyler and Alastair) were uber adorable. Alastair is about a month and a half younger than Ty and so while he just sat on laps and looked cute Ty was a banshee chattering away and jumping up and down on people's laps. Yup.
Grandparents loved their gift of the photobook. Mom cried (score) so you know it was a hit. From what I hear from both sides everyone they show the book to loves it. My parents even took their book to where they were staying for New Year's to show my dad's cousin and their friends out there. I'm so happy I made them. I have our six month book to work on now. Basically the same as the grandparent's book, just more pics. I have too many favourites!
I did track most of the books I read this past year. I read at least 26 books. I did much better in 2008 with 42 books. Some year I'll meet my 50 book goal. Maybe this one? I'm reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I got last year from Lisa for Christmas. I have a book club meeting for it next week. It is really good so I think (while I'm still awake) I'll take my tea and go read a bit before bed. Hopefully now that I've made some decisions about car seats and pumps I can actually get to doing something around the house tomorrow!
Well I didn't get a chance to post this last night. Ty woke up and needed a bit of nursing and fell quickly asleep then I popped him into his crib. I went to bed right after since I was already there and warm and cozy. Then the little man woke up at 5am today. He nursed, sat and chatted to his pacifier for a bit, then curled up next to me to sleep and cuddle. He slept for an hour or two longer before waking up for the morning.
Oh! He has been saying variations on "mom/mama/mmmommmm" for a couple weeks now. When we were in Canada the week of Christmas twice he distinctly said "mom" but since no one has called me that to him I don't think he was referring to me. Then this past week or so any time he's upset he says some sort of "mama/mmmaaaa" sound. I think we're on our way to his first word.
Although no first teeth. He hasn't been sleeping as well for a little over a month. Not sure if it is because we have been unswaddling him, he is teething, we've been out of town, he has hit a growth spurt and wants to eat all night, or this cold. It certainly doesn't help since he's been battling post-nasal drip. We're improving slowly. Last night was a good night. Hopefully we have more good ones! At least his naps are going super well. He gets 2 really good naps during the day and is pretty happy between them.
Ok, off to make some breakfast.
