Sofie has discovered small animals. My yard is fenced but beyond the fence is more green grass, then a small road, then more lawns. There are big and small trees everywhere. Little scrawny grey squirrels live in the trees and therefore are always running past my yard. I haven't seen any foolish enough to venture into it yet. The first time Sofie saw one while outside she sort of moved in a trance following its progress across the street and up a tree.
Then about a week ago we discovered that there is a groundhog/woodchuck living under the shed in the neighbour's yard. Sofie discovered it too. Now she's always looking out the window for signs of her friends. I know when she's spotted something because she lets out this crazed whine I have never heard from her before and gets really excited. Yesterday she got excited about a piece of newspaper that had blown against the fence. I never said she was a smart dog.
I had a pretty productive day yesterday. I managed to get my books onto the shelves in the bedroom. I'm tired of alphabetizing things. First the DVDs when I took them out of their cases and put them in CD binders, then our books. I had everything nicely alphabetized before the movers packed us up but they didn't keep anything on order. I have a few children's books to sort still and I don't even want to think about all the books my parents brought me from Canada. I know they brought my collection of children's books plus any books I had that weren't mass market paperbacks. That's a lot of books.
I worked on getting through our laundry yesterday. After the craziness with my dryer (more about that when I actually take a picture of my poor excuse for a laundry room) the clothes were piling up. Thankfully Chris did his army clothes and a few other things before he left for the field. I did have several bedding sets to wash though after having house guests. I use to fold my laundry straight out of the dryer in the other house. I had a nice big laundry room and had the space to do it. I can barely turn around in this one so I have to put the clothes into a basket and take it into another room to fold. If I turn my back on it for one second Audrey ends up in the basket. She loves fresh laundry. I caught her in a laundry basket 3 times yesterday, once when the clothes were already folded. Little brat.
I realized that we had forgotten to put a bedskirt on the bed when it was assembled. It was creased from being packed so I got to experience the joy of ironing it yesterday. I hate hung linens that have wrinkles. Seriously, run an iron over the curtains before you hang them. It makes a world of difference. I need to get some curtains for the windows here but they have nice wide white trim around them that I actually like.
I arranged my pantry yesterday. My dad and uncle installed shelves into a storage cupboard in my kitchen for me when they were here. I sorted through the things I wanted to store there and got everything all put away. Whoops, I just remembered I forgot to put my veggie/rice steamer into it. Must remember to take care of that. I did make space in my cupboards for my china and crystal that was brought here from Canada. I just have to wash and remove all the blasted stickers from them.
I still haven't made my new table cloth yet. I have the perfect fabric for it but I'm trying to decide if I'll be getting that new table or not. That will make a big difference on how I cut the cloth. Come to think of it the cloth I have may not be wide enough for the new table. Something else to check. I can always use the cloth to make table covers for the stools we're using as nightstands in the guest room.
Today I am tackling my bedroom. I have two dressers plus a vanity that are all waiting to be filled with my clothes. We have no shortage of clothing storage space now. I also have to sort the storage space under the stairs and get the boxes from my knick-knacks put away. That should be just about it except for cleaning, hanging pictures, and fine-tuning.
Hopefully I'll be getting together with Misti tomorrow as she's in DC. I'm not sure what we're doing but it will be nice to see a friend here. Then Friday I'll be cleaning and the dining room is being delivered. Ok, enough procrastinating. Off to tackle... lunch. Look at the time!
