A sad scene

This picture was disturbing to me for the two obvious reasons: a child and his cat.  It's always so sad to see those two suffer in unimaginable ways.  This was, of course, a child and his cat in near New Orleans, LA.  At least the kid had the good sense to grab the cat.  I heard a story yesterday on NPR about a man who left his three cats at home with, as he describes, three to four weeks of food supply.  I'm just wondering why someone would leave their animals behind?  If it's bad enough for you to evacuate, don't you think that you should take your loved possessions?  Would you just as easily leave your child behind?  I suppose animals are not considered "children" to some people.  Andy is a large part of my life and there is no possible reason I would ever leave him behind in any situation.  He's like a son.  If I had only $5 to my name and it came down to either me or him eating, he would eat before I would ever think about eating.  So, it's just really, really disturbing to hear about people leaving their animals behind.

Good lookin' out, kid.
