Corn originated in the Americas. The natives of Mesoamerica in prehistoric times specifically bred plants in order to domesticate it into a viable source of food. It was spread across the world after Europeans crossed the Atlantic Ocean and found the continent.

A cob of corn is actually multiple fruit all together. These days, one cob typically has about two hundred to four hundred kernels! In addition to being high in fiber, corn is a good source of folate, which actually helps with the generation of new cells in the body. It's a widely-used and accepted part of a good diet.

Corn is truly a demonstration of how we can use genetics to improve life! Just think of what we could do if we selectively bred better traits into people.

After all, that's just part of evolution! In Darwinism, those with the traits most needed to survive live and breed, while those without the necessary traits don't; in other words, the best is passed on and determine the traits of our next generations. If we really tried, we could actually eliminate baldness, reduce genetic predispositions to heart disease, even ensure better hearing and eyesight.

One day, women will want to screen their suitor's genetics before deciding they want to pursue a relationship with him. The human genome will become the ultimate status symbol, greater than any car!

It'll be just like in Gattaca.

Gattaca is a movie released in 1997 that explores the natural conclusion of our advancements in the understanding of human genetics. Upon birth, doctors will be able to tell what disorders you suffer from. Employers will be able to screen applicants with the knowledge that if you're hiring a firefighter or an astronaut, you shouldn't hire someone who's likely to experience heart failure in a stressful situation.
