Math time.

Assuming:

Y = [t + 2I + A+ 2(SI + 2SA)]/400 300

and

X = 100% - YI would say my probability of returning to my home world within the next month would be between 65% and 75%. However, the short time I have been in camp is skewing the numbers just a bit, so that may be a conservative estimate. I would say the probability is closer to 45% or 50 ( Read more... )

I don't get it. Do I have to know math to go home?

*pinged*

Knowing how unlikely it is...probably. Ah...not really, Usagi-chan. He's figuring out a pattern in the people that are able to leave the barrier.

So, there's a pattern? Like all blondes go one day and the brunettes the next?

--Nothing so specific, I'd think. Just the probability of a person's ability to successfully flee the barrier.

Could he figure out mine? How'd he know that?

It...shouldn't be difficult, no. It's a matter of using facts to represent numbers. In this case, certain factors about your daily habits are taken into account as the variables, and pluged into an equation. Those factors are ones that can be similarly calculated among others without leaving any person out--presenting a stable, controlled formula.

This equation seems to be based on social data.

Um, so...you're saying what we do is part of the reason we can't get out of camp?

Not...that simply, I'd think. But something like it? It's still very much a theory, however sound.

You know what? This is really confusing. Is it going to help us get of camp? Or just do math things?

It's just math. It gives people peace of mind.

Oh, I get it! Alright, well it's good there's something to relax some of camp! I wouldn't call math relaxing but everyone has their own opinion!

Math can be very relaxing. It's good to fall back on certainties and absolutes.

Or dumplings and sweet buns!

Indeed. And admittedly tastier.

Not really, although it helps to understand the concept.

Math is only an expression of phenomena using numbers.

Great! I was worried getting out would be impossible!

That makes sense, I guess.
