Hey guys! As promised, this is the OOC writeup for the plot thus far. The IC explanation will follow whenever LJ stops spitting its dummy out and lets me make comments without varnish errors.
This post covers a lot of the basics from the beginning of the year and
this one has a rundown of the NPCs involved, but to sum it up: a group of interstellar travellers were drawn to camp after the mass revival from the death event of November 2010, which let off a beacon of energy. As it turns out, they came for a specific reason: to protect it. These interstellar travellers -- or carnies as they have largely become known -- are in fact the crew of the SS Cataclysm, the last remaining ship of its kind in their universe. In order to cover their tracks and to assimilate properly with Camp, the ship appeared as a carnival. So at the beginning of the year, a carnival appeared, some weird stuff happened and Camp gained a lot of permanent fixtures. Little stuff, mostly harmless, nothing of note. The list of sights that can be seen in the carnival go as follows:
+Sideshows and games
+The ferris wheel
+The haunted house
+The Tunnel of Love
+A pirate ship
+One of those elevator rides
+... whatever Luffy decides to put up, STAY TUNED!!1
The sideshows and game prizes happened to contain small rulebreaking items, such as sugar! The plot at this point was very much in the background, mainly a fact-finding mission for members of Camp.
At the end of March/beginning of April, completely unrelated to the carnival, a virus appeared and futzed with a lot of things like camp's internet and soon, its surroundings. The virus had gained a sentience and was capable of manipulating a lot! A quality that was later discovered by one of the members of the carnival, Noir. She and her twin, Blanche, then basically raised it like a Pokemon -- hence the virus attack posts from May through July -- in order to eventually
sic it against a greater evil. tl;dr, the virus was a good thing, and every time it was attacked by people in Camp it grew stronger. However it met an unfortunate fate, as will be discussed below. First!
Time to discuss the greater evil in question! The World Eater / Great Devourer / Hungry One / how many fucking variations can we do on one name is Camp's latest greatest adversary. It was the thing that the carnies were fleeing from, the reason they came to Camp in the first place, and was responsible for the
anniversary tear, which Charlotte
stitched back up. It was eventually shown through an alien
creation story that the World Eater is one nasty dude who is here to eat all things. The carnies worked to combat it in different ways. The captain, Erin, worked behind the scenes and had some conversations with people (like
here). Jalen, the doctor, sent out e-mails as he could and worked around the military's protocol in attempts to get information out. Noir did the aforementioned virus thing. Meric
attempted but failed to build a second barrier. Charlotte ate popcorn. We can clearly tell who the most productive member of the crew was. The information about the World Eater is now out and about at large in Camp thanks to Jalen's efforts -- basically, if anyone wants to have this information as assumed knowledge, that's completely plausible.
After
hatching a plan with camp, the Noobspeaker
laid the final blow against the Virusaur, killing it. Poor, sweet prince. He had to die. Charlotte has currently manipulated some of the threads around the unstable portions of the barrier, which will instigate our lovely
fourth wall event shortly. Over the next week, people in Camp will be experiencing some creepiness which can be dicussed or ignored at will, due to the cracks that have been left for the World Eater to potentially seep through. Post the fourth wall event, those cracks will be gone and we shall return to garden variety CFUD. The usual day-to-day stability of the place will return. How long for? ~Spoilers.~ But the plot will die back down to its original level, returning in the typical CFUD months for plot to happen.
What does this mean for Camp, or indeed for you? It means as much or as little as you want it to, inevitably. With the end of the fourth wall event, "Act 1" of the plot will be concluded! Because of the need to introduce all of the new concepts and add onto the standard Camp canon, this has been the most explanatory and NPC driven of the acts, and as we go forward, the impetus will fall far more upon campers and counselors to work together to combat their new enemy. Far more interactive and player driven, in other words! Which means your personal involvement level can remain low or high according to your own desires. But either way, this part of the story is really just the beginning, so stay tuned, 'cause there's more to come.
We are accepting any questions regarding the plot, its characters and backstory, and general how-are-you-doing-why-are-you-doing questions over
here! It's a plot question meme. All mods involved in running the plot will be attending, so feel free to ask any questions you might have. We'd like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your involvement in the plot so far, as well. You guys are awesome. ♥
