HEY CFUDERS WHO TABLETOP AND OR GM. I have a idea! I know several of us, for reasons beyond our control, currently drift between actual RL groups of tabletoping. I also know several of us have crazyyy schedules so I recognize the following may be kind of crazy impossible to accomplish, so I am proposing this as something that may require some work before it works.
I propose that we find some weeknight/weekend time that works for a majority of us for about 3-4 hours. Preferably around six of us on a consistent basis, although I am sure we can find some way to work it with less if not more. Among us that can make the timeslot, we construct a GMing schedule, so that we can rotate GMs. Not everyone would have to GM, obviously, but if you can, it would be good to cycle among those who can.
GMs would be asked to run an IRC friendly game of the system of their choice over IRC. (I emphasize IRC friendly because I think map programs are of the devil, and adding additional software requirements is cruel and unusual. If you are a-okay with updating a map in an image editor and uploading on the fly, this isn't so much an issue.) You get one session for introducing the system and character creation, and it is also up to the GM to find a way to distribute the rules. Then, you'd run for a vague minimum of three sessions--if you want to longer, I think that'd be fine, but given that setup between each system would probably take place during a session, less might be unwieldy and intrusive if it was a regular thing.
Since KB is no longer among us and was pretty much an Exalted bot anyway, I would probably try to find a way to beat one of the die rollers into submission on my Wine setup so that we could have all them fancy script setups. I would even go so far as to run the first campaign maybe, although if we went with that, that wouldn't happen until a month from now at best, which I will go into more into the comments.
I think newcomers should be welcome since we'd be running GM's choice of system, and not everyone knows every system, and we're all clearly RPers here. eta: WE ALSO ACCEPT VOYEURISM.
...so, is there interest? If so, in a once a week or twice a month meeting, and on what days are you free? If you could GM, rough idea of what sort of systems/games you'd run? Describe, so that people know what they're getting.
