I asked about this in the cabin update post and people seemed to like the idea, but the comments were kind of buried so I'm posting to here to gather more opinions.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed that the original standard cabins are starting to look pretty empty in a few places, and I was wondering if it would help if players had the option of OOCly deciding to have Camp ICly assign their new character a cabin. They'd ask around OOCly to find out who's got room and doesn't mind another character moving in and hey presto, cabin without having to play out the whole finding-a-cabin deal, with the added bonus of potential hilarious character interactions that those characters wouldn't necessarily have ICly chosen.
That lead to another thought about organising the cabin list. The way it works now it's only updated by a couple of people who can't possibly keep track of all the movements of people in camp, so I was thinking it'd be easier if there was a post which had comments which were themselves the cabin list. By which I mean the post would be blank and there would be a top-level comment for each building, and people would comment to each building-comment with the character journal of the character who's there. That way it could be updated by the people involved as soon as characters moved or dropped, and if people left an email address it'd also be easier for people to see which cabins have room and contact the people in those cabins to ask if their character could move in. Of course it'd rely on it being pimped every round or so to remind people to update it as they went, but I think it could really work. The main problem I can see is that it would probably need to be cleaned of idles every now and then, but I think it'd still be easier to keep it relatively up-to-date than the current system.
So, what do you guys think?
