The Proper Pruning and Shaping of Minors

I was privileged to hear a rant today about why parents always ruin their kids lives by not letting them do anything fun. The catalyst for the even was the dad limits the hours the kid can play video games.

The rant went on and on about how adults live to ruin their kids lives by holding them back, then he decided to except me from his rant. Parents live to ruin their kids lives by getting in their way and not letting kids do things, "but you wouldn't know about that. You don't have kids."

Then I reminded him that in a way, I do have kids because I work with them in a school.

"Oh, well that's different! Teachers are paid to ruin kids lives! Parents don't have to, but they do, and they aren't even paid for it!"

I was so tempted to tell him that children are like fine topiary. *grab scissors as visual aid* They need pruning and trimming frequently so they grow into well-rounded adults. *snap scissors open and closed repeatedly* But I was nice. I nodded my head and let him continue to believe that teachers are paid to make him miserable.
